Add a LAN feature please!
I often get periods where the internet drops out. Half the time I play this game with my housemates and when the net is down we cant play together even tho were all in the same room.

Do you really think they will do this? What with weapon packs and new character models this will be a long way off. Maybe down to the community to do!
Nice ask though.

Or an idea that all my friends and I have wanted... Servers to rent/buy. Not as good as LAN, but would be awesome still.

imo, all multiplayer games should have lan. I don't know the complications behind it for the engine they're using, but for others it's no more difficult than implementing network.
Merc Jan 8, 2015 @ 3:58pm
Unfortunately, LAN functionality isn't the selling point it used to be as broadband internet has become available to most consumers, and thus isn't usually worth the development cost.
MechAnimaL Jan 8, 2015 @ 11:13pm
It doesnt take much development. Just connect to a lan IP instead of going out throught the internet and back again and then through the lan ip.

Lan is less complicated and would only take a minor adjustment.

I think companies are just worried about piracy. Forcing you to play online so you cant have a lan with a cracked version.

for a 4 player co-op game, i think LAN gameplay makes a LOT of sense. For versus multiplayer games what you say makes sense because LAN parties are no longer the norm. When people are physically together like that though, that is when they tend to play co-op games.

in other news, i think an overhaul of the server side of this game would be well worth the effort. granted it is a big project, consider the following
  • Ability to have dedicated servers with a server browser (still defaulting to crime.net matchmaking)
  • No more glitched lobbies where you have to remake the lobby for people to be able to join
  • Finally fix desync... this is 2015, games I played 15 years ago did not struggle this bad with synchronization and we only had 56k connections
  • LAN gameplay option (naturally)
  • Overall improve the quality of the public games (ie dedicated servers could have rules, or titles saying stealth only, loud only, deathwish only, special mods/mutators, etc - would make the multiplayer experience FAR more intuitive and people doing strange things like using mutators would be more acceptable, since it would be visible in the server description prior to joining)

if there was one single thing that i think overkill could do to improve the overall quality of the game, this would be it. without question, i would take this update over ANY DLC because it would improve the quality of the game (and more importantly, the multiplayer experience) immensely.

here's to hoping

Just asking:does Hamachi work with PD2?If yes,i think we got a temporary solution
Kamel Jan 9, 2015 @ 1:04am
all matchmaking for payday 2 is done via steam. i don't think hamachi would work. usually it's the other way around, hamachi allows you to make a "LAN" game and play it over the internet, not the other way around.

Nope. For Hamachi to work, you need a LAN option to begin with. Payday 2 doesn't have it as it requires steamworks for the connection to other players.

Actually... I could recall a friend making either Hamachi or Tunggle to work... with Payday 2 .... (or was it Payday TH?), but I think the method would warrant a ban from Steam.
MechAnimaL Jan 9, 2015 @ 1:03pm
Lol. Hamachi is used when you CANT CONNECT over the internet.

Lets not debate the function of hamachi and accept its not going to work.

ALso @ Game Mechanic.

Totally agree! The syncing was worse after they aparently fixed it with the historical pack update.
Witch confused me because I thought the game send packets directly to other players.

Since the servers come from a player making a game. And in your network options it has a checkbox to send packets via the other players if connection to the host is slow.

So.. This is a direct connection to the host, WHY! are the there syncing issues.

But if the connection to players is via steam server then maybe thats the problem. Should be direct to the host. Syncing issues would probably be fixed and then you could also just have the option to specify an IP to connect to enabling you to connect directly to LAN ip address.

I mean look at Quake 3! Old games but I can run it and just type "map (mapname)" and ppl from other countries and ppl in the same house can join no worries. If your local you get a ping of 1, net a ping of 40ish and overseas a ping of 300.

But in payday 2 you get syncing issues playing with the person sitting next to you. WTF?

Direct connection to the host please!
Kamel Jan 9, 2015 @ 3:43pm
It's not so much about the direct connection, it's more about the way the game interprets the data it receives. The whole network system needs to be reworked, and remaking it so that it's more robust and can operate in LAN/dedicated server mode would be the perfect opportunity to get it all done with one massive update.

This would improve the game more than any heist could, because honestly overkill you're seriously fooling yourself if you don't think the connection issues the game has is not off-putting to new players. Only people who _really_ like the game will stick around and put up with the issues. If you're just kinda here to check out the game, it is enough to get you to stop playing the game and never come back.
