PAYDAY 2

Boss Fights/Assualts
This idea came to mind recently, and I thought it could really benefit the whole "holdout until drill is done" feel of most heists. Boss fights, or Boss assault. As most of you know, a lot of horde modes feature special rounds with a specific enemy or even a boss, and forces you to quickly adapt and take it out as quickly as possible. I know that Payday is not a horde mode game, but there are definitely times where it FEELS like one. I think this could be a neat feature to payday's assualt system and could be implemented by one of two ways, or both.

1: It could be implemented via a special gametype or difficulty. It would have the same difficulty as overkill, except every 3-5 assualts or so would be a boss assault, perhaops something like 9 bulldozers, coming in packs of 2, 3, and 4, but have no other cops. Perhaps it could be an entirely new enemy, or even specialized bosses specific to a certain heist. For example, in Framing Frame day 3 or Firestarter Day 2, the entire indoors could go dark, and a special operation units similar to PD:TH cloakers could infiltrate the building. It'd give a reason to have flashlights.

2: There could be an entirely new heist with this built in. The heist would have to be centered around something huge and outdoors, that would take a long time and would have to be defended. This way the bosses could be more specialised to the heist it is in, and would help the heist feel much more unique. the boss could be like an IFV, or a helicopter, or even a tank.

Now, before you go off and say that this is extremely unrealistic, think of how the cops behave in payday already. Real cops dont just mindlessly rush into the building like that, nor do they have random guys in bomb suits with shotguns try to take out the criminals. This doesnt seem too far fetched in the world of Payday.

EDIT: I want to clarify that by "boss" I dont neccesarily mean something like a 20 foot bulldozer with a lazercannon, just a special type of assualt with unique enemies that employ different tactics, like the lights out night ops.

I came in here to shoot this idea down, but the "light goes down and night ops come in" actually sounds great.
The outdoors and a tank thing not so much.

But. You could have machine/robot/drone enemies, like a remote controlled small scout vehicle on wheels with a gun/camera.
Or one of those flying things that some services use to deliver small packages directly into your garden rather than having a delivery truck drive to you. But that flying drone would have a gun attached.
Actually, those sound too much like modern warfare. Nevermind.

They could make the specials more "special" if they reduced their overall quantity and spawn rate, and boost their power/abilities. Doing such a thing could produce a similar effect to your "boss" idea without the actual boss element.

Thank you, I figured having a Night Ops assualt would be the most reasonable thing to have., And yea, the tank was a little far-fetched, I was trying to think of a SWAT equivelent to one, but couldnt think of any. I just thinking having something like this would freshen things up so you aren't just fighting endless swarms of the same enemies over and over again.

The special enemies are fine, because they are specials. I'm talking about bosses.

Adding bosses isn't going to reduce the redundancy of the waves, as there is no way there would be enough unique "bosses" to make it different. And the "boss assault" concept you mention sounds like it would need an improvement to AI. That would be better utilized on all cop types to diminish the "horde of brainless cops" vibe it has now. Realistic cop maneuvers, such as shield phalanxes, breach-and-clear, and coordinated flanking would be a better improvement over adding a special "boss wave" every 3-5 assaults (which pretty much means, what? two boss waves in an average heist? meh). Without an overall AI improvement, your suggestion doesn't really remove the "horde mode" vibe at all.

The Tank/Helicopter/IFV is kinda Overkill. Beside, the team don't have the equipment to fight them (Aside from the fact that Solid Snake grenaded a tank to death).

But the tank had an open hatch on the top. I am pretty sure swat of D.C. have enough personal to find guys who fit into the tank seats so you can close the hatch.

If talking about "boss waves", what about just people with explosives. Grenade launcher or rocket launcher. A boss wave with explosive troops would have drastically reduced number of specials, and instead you have to deal with people exploding your positions.
Logically police/swat would only send those if no single civilian is left on the map.
Eh. maybe someone can make it sound good.

Still really liking "lights out night ops come in"
That's just gold. On nightmaps.

I would like the Idea of boss fights, plus if you pulled out the regular swat so you can face the boss(s) you might be able to give them more advanced AI

well first they would need to fix how explosive work right now, considering I can grenade you from the other side of a conceate wall

It's the blast force. The only problem is that the Human takes the blast but not the wall and furniture.

Then give them the equipment. I'm sure Gage has a few RPGs lying around. (not implying DLC.)

No RPG can compare to Stinger and Javelin.

Probably has those as well. Still, and RPG would get the job done, just not as well as those.

The night ops idea is really good and it'll bring a twist into heists at night, should it go loud. It also brings in some uses for a flashlight attachment.

I have another simplified idea on how to make special enemy units a bit tougher. Since they can already throw smoke grendaes and flashbangs, why not let them throw frag grenades too?

Would lead to a lot of dead civilians. Maybe some kind of Non lethal grenade.
