How screwed am I? Can it handle this game?

In theory you should be ok. Run that sucker until you can't anymore as the current generation of intel processors (14th) are utter garbage, and the AMD competition had to issue a recall on their latest ryzens.

Probably not. This game uses the same engine as World War Z, which is a very CPU-intensive game. Crazy enough, World War Z is very GPU-friendly, which makes me wonder why the recommended GPU for SpaceMarine 2 is the RTX3070 for 60 fps, but that is completely off topic. But, hey, you can try the game for less than 2 hours and see if it is running well; if not, just refund it.

I was able to run WWZ pretty well actually so I hope it'll be ok.

Well.... The minimum requirement for wwz is i3-3220, while sm2 is i5-8600k, which, according to Passmark, is 5x more powerful than i3-3220, but of course it's a synthetic test, not a real gaming experience. your mileage may vary.

Man, i wish sm2 have demo, so we can try before commiting to buy

Overclock that cpu to the max maybe it will work decent, depending on the gpu you are using.

It is quite a bit weaker than the minimum processor listed for the game, but you might be able to pull it off to get it to run. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-8600K/2384vs3941

cpu.userbenchmark is fake site with fake review and benchmark, dont use it, if u want to check go to cpubenchmark.net

Well, if that is the case then OP's processor is in even worse position. The site you linked says it is a whopping 21% slower than the game's minimum required processor if I am understanding those figures right. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/2275vs3100/Intel-i7-4790K-vs-Intel-i5-8600K

Edit: Did a test on my processor out of interest. 39% slower than recommended processor. Ouch XD

It's a synthetic test, and the result might be different from the real world (other parts of your PC will also affect the gaming experience). OP 4790k is a solid CPU (but weaker than minimum), and like @bobo said, just overclock it to make up the difference and pray to the Emperor that this game actually needs less CPU than the specified requirements. Now i am curious what is your cpu
,@-GK- Paladin?

I7-10700K is my processor. I compared to recommended processor as the I7-10700K is still much more powerful than the I5-8600K. I've always avoided overclocking to avoid shortening hardware life. I'd rather put up with reduced frames.

Seeing as the game's minimum is an 8th gen series and you have a 4th. No, I doubt it. Maybe if you put it on very low and run it in a 480p window.

Yea, this game is asking too much; 5800x or 12700 for the recommended CPU is too much for the average gamer.
It's a Mind Game Aug 17, 2024 @ 10:17am
So I've done some digging and Digital Foundry did a test run on preview build with their PC that has parts similar to XSX Console (same CPU) and PS5 (similar GPU) and they got under 60 FPS (around 40-50 I think). They were CPU bottlenecked, lowering settings didn't improve this much.

So this CPU was benchmarked by Digital Foundry, sadly not against 2600X, but there was Ryzen 5 3600 and 3600 had about 40-50% more FPS compared to this XSX CPU.
Now another benchmark puts 3600 about 10-15% faster than 2600X, so 4800S (XSX CPU) is about 30% slower than the minimum required for this game.
i7-4790k is about 40% worse than 2600X, so maybe you can get around 30-40 FPS?
But of course it varies between games and CPUs, so you might actually get under 30 FPS and won't get more unless you upgrade. Don't get your hopes up.

Man these requirements are brutal. I guess this is my definitive sign to upgrade. I'll probably test out the game to see how it runs when it's out and then upgrade after that. Thank you for the replies.

time to upgrade granpa, thats a ten year old CPU
