I even pressed buttons randomly but i guess i always ended up pressing the correct one :O
I mean, its a toddler level mechanic. Seriously, if you are in the bossfight for the first time and you dont immediately understand what they want from you, you shouldnt even play videogames (you meant as in general and not as you as individual).
imo the devs went too immersive with that. It should have been a fullscreen popup with a clear video what to do. Basically a version of "listen here you little sh*t".
As it is now people just spaz out because the door is locked with nothing to shoot at (although sometimes they shoot the symbol on the stained glass window) and don't even pay attention. I have done this mission so many times and it was just me pressing the buttons most of the time.
There is a similar problem with the last mission (Nova cannon shell) where people don't use consoles, like you know A1 B2 etc. because those aren't marked with objective marker.
One could say SM2 is a thinking man's game.
But man people are just scared to ask in chat, or to even read it when you ask them to let me/other resolve this mechanic.
First time I did it I somehow mistakenly thought that you had to hit the terminal that matched the symbol of the "tutorial area" terminal. I immediately realized I did something wrong based on the dialog and then quickly noticed the giant panels on either side of the drake that show you exactly what you need to hit. We all have our derp moments. Luckily I was playing solo, and still managed to clear the mission anyway.
i swear modern players is legit insanly boo boo doo doo
Me telling them didn't help (Playstation guy only had the typical rustling of potato chip bags crankle over his mic)
The game telling them on repeat didn't help.
Me praying to the Emperor to make matchmaking work without having crossplay on didn't help.
Honestly made me support those platforms requiring you to pay for the online services as at least some form of filter.
I suggest "guiding" people in such way can help. If not - they're probably beyond redemption and should be executed as traitors actively sabotaging the job the moment you return to battle barge, since space marines aren't supposed to be that stupid.
