Long answer: 3 maps, 3 game modes (essentially KotH, TDM, Domination) no skill based match making or ranking system (Launch has been a nightmare of one-sided matches as newbies are thrown up against people who have been playing early access for a week), nothing to really strive for as far as goals or interesting unlocks.
You're either working towards cosmetics which are finished around 35 wins with a class. (Which can also be earned in PvE) Or weapon unlocks that are tied to a much grindier system that will take on average more than 200 matches to finish. The only "skill" based pvp unlock in the entire game is a single achievement for getting 5 kills in a single life, everything else is a participation trophy grind. Nothing for favoring a particular gun (All the gun based mastery progression is only in PvE), or getting a ton of kills or objectives captured.
Highly team based combat (In a game with no SBMM), the skill ceiling for aiming is rather low, it's mostly on positioning and skill/equipment usage.
The games main draw is it fulfills the 40k fantasy, it is a beautiful game, and if you're a fan of the universe you'll probably love it. But the actual mechanics and systems are pretty mid compared to other non-40k games.
