How do I voice chat with my squad/platoon?

I'm pretty new to planetside. All I really know is the bare basics of how to play, but I think it would be helpful if I could communicate with my squad. Could somebody please tell me how to voice chat with them?

I can't remember the default buttons for it but if you go in and check your key-bindings, you should find ones labeled as Squad and Platoon Chat. I think Platoon Chat defaults to something on the Numpad. Those are push-to-talk keys for those voice channels.

I believe that the default voice chat key is v, however you can rebind the voice chat keys to whatever you want in settings. You would want to change squad chat if you don't like the default key.

There should be another one called Proximity Chat - that'll broadcast to all friendlies nearby, whether they're in your squad/platoon or not. Mostly people use it to either call for Medics while dead or blast music in the warpgate.

Z for squad, the bulk of your other voice chats are on the numpad

The Defaults for the Planetside2 voicechat(teamspeak) are:

Z - Squad(Trupp) speak. The most usable. Hold to talk. Squad is a Group of Maximum 12 Players.
Num9 - teamspeak. Team is a Group of your friends. Friends can be in other continents in game. Team and Squad are different.
Num1 - Platoonspeak. Platoon consist of max 4 Squads.

Num4 - People about 10m around will hear your voice. It doesn`t matter are they in your Squad/Platoon/or they are by themselves.
Num7 - Talk only to your Squadleader, tell him something others shouldn`t listen.

Usually, when you Play, you want to coordinate your Squad(auf Deutsch, Trupp) if you`re a leader, or to say something important. Players in your Squad can be from other countries, or your friend, sitting next to you, playing the same game.
Each time you want to say something to your Squad, press and hold [Z] to talk. Squad(Trupp) is a Basic and most effective TeamplayUnit.

Using voicechat, or teamspeak in your Squad(Trupp), you can find Solutions, how to reach your Goal, Change Taktik, coordinate efforts from other Players in your Trupp(Squad). The real value of the game comes from using squadSpeak [Z].

If you can`t hear somebody talking, or noone hears you, check your Setting. You have to take some time to check them, because it`s a Long and complicated Task. Check your Mic in Windows - does it work at all, set a usable recording Level. In the game, activate voice Chat.
In Setting you can check your Mic. In the game you can set for each Player in your Squat(Trupp) individual loudness. If barely hear your SquadLeader, make his channel louder. If someone in your Squal is too loid, make him quieter.

Lex covered it very well, but since it seems to have been lost in the German-English translation (don't worry Lex; your English is pretty good) when he said "Team" for Numpad 9 that's not Team as in your faction, that's Team as in your Outfit (the PS2 version of guilds). I can only assume that Team is a more direct translation of the word they used in the German version of the game, easy mistake to make.

Check under the Voice menu, if Enable Voice as a tick or not.

No, there is only PTT. You might be able to set up an AHK script to make the game think he constantly presses his key. I would advise to fix the Steam VOIP, though, the in-game quality is pretty bad.

It’s even more stupid when you realize that you don’t have to hold down a button on the PS4 version.
