For the love of all things holy, don't do that!!!
If you validate Planetside 2 through Steam it will do so by comparing the outdated files they have on file and download the whole thing again, only so you have to patch the entire thing once more through the launcher. You'll be downloading another 20gb of data if you verify it through Steam.
The launcher has its own verification option, use that one.. but don't use Steam!!!
Exactly this. Verifying files on Steam will make it look for the original files used to install the game BEFORE the updates applied on the PS2 patcher/launcher. Verify the files after you launch it in Steam when the PS2 patcher opens.
The logs of my launchpad showed it was unable to acquire a dll file, specifically http://lpj.daybreakgames.com/static/plugin/npdg0act.dll.zs
I manually downloaded that and put it in the Appdata folder it demanded (C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\Daybreak Game Company). The launchpad then opened, complained the file was wrong and then reacquired components, fixing itself and going to the login screen rather than the unable to connect error.
This solution worked for me on a Windows 10 64-bit system.
One caveat: the file downloaded from Daybreak is a compressed ZS file. It must be extracted first; simply copy-pasting it as "npdg0act.dll.zs" won't work (well, it didn't work for me anyway).
Here are the steps I took to extract the file:
1. Download the http://lpj.daybreakgames.com/static/plugin/npdg0act.dll.zs file.
2. Go to https://filext.com/file-extension/ZS
3. Drag-drop the "npdg0act.dll.zs" file from wherever you downloaded it onto your computer and into the "Online ZS Text Viewer" portion of that webpage.
4. At the top of the page it will say "npdg0act.dll.zs contains the following files:".
5. Hover over the "1624122898_npdg0act.dll" file just below that and click the download arrow.
6. The file will download but resolve as "npdg0act.dll".
7. Continue with Henry's instructions to copy the file to the appropriate Daybreak folder.
8. Launch Planetside 2.
9. As this was a new install of the game on a new computer, the Planetside 2 launcher then began downloading and installing the game. But at least no more "LaunchPad cannot connect... (1-0)" error.
