I use an Extreme 3D Pro + CM Xornet Mouse for Infantry. I have been thinking about setting it up for flight, with roll on the handle twist function. It feels like it might work; then I could fly one handed.
I drive with the mouse and keyboard.
There is a problem with Logitech products that if its plugged in when you start some games, it goes crazy and wildly spins. I have that problem with Borderlands and Borderlands 2. (even though I use mouse look and no 'look' function is bound to the joystick) When that happens, I have to wait until Im actually in game to plug it in....then its fine.
Also, sometimes I have to vigorously wiggle the joystick back and forth. It likes to get stuck on 'A' (or left) and W (or forward) Same applies to the analog sticks on the controller.
I didnt actually have to map keystrokes to the joystick either. This is the first game that recognized the joystick's button presses and joystick action without any keybinds set in Logitech's profiler. I just bound it all in game, with no profile loaded whatsoever. Best of all, it recognizes BOTH the Joystick and Controller, so I can swap back and forth as I go from Pilot to Infantry. You can even bind both of them to the same flight functions for example.
SOE did great when it comes to Joysticks/Controllers IMO.
Your welcome :)
If you play a lot of flight sims, you might do better with the joystick. If you grew up on console games like I did, (like Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo) then you might be better off with the controller. So far the controller does best for me but Im going to give the Joystick another shot.
last time i flew was early beta and stopped because joystick support was lacking
did they make joysticks better or is it still a all or nothing system?
Wow. A blast from the past. I thought it looked familiar when I started reading it, and there I was 12 years ago responding.
I would not expect any further joystick support from the game. You'll need to map your controller or joystick to keystrokes. Even the old Logitech I had could map a key and then use it as a throttle. Whatever your model is, theres almost certainly a way. Its been a decade since I used anything but a wheel for racing titles (The Crew was the last one, for perspective so dont as me 'how' LOL) The tech was there 12 years ago and Im sure it hasnt gone away.
Also a big thanks for taking me all the way back to 2012, when the game was still fun. The recent Sunderer update was so absurd that I just quit playing. Game was on a major decline from the best times ~2014 anyway. Sad, but we (long time veterans) all knew this time was coming.
