PS2 not working on steam yet works w/out steam.

title. so, here is a short video i made. note that before the "planetside 2.exe has stopped working" message appears, the screen goes black and there is the PS2 mouse, it is just that my recording software i used only records desktop, not games. same goes for at the end when i don't press play.

so basically going through steam the launcher pops up, i press play. it crashes. however, going to the local files and launching it from there works. i have validated the files via steam, doesn't fix it.

also i have run the steam launcher and the non-steam launcher at the same time, pressing play on the non-steam works, but no overlay. minimising the game shows that the steam launcher says "playing", like it would.

i really like the steam overlay, so i was wondering if there was some fix for it, or just a problem with steam.

are you in europe? i think the steam version is american. also do not use steam to validate the files you must use the launcher.

i live in australia. and this only started happening after the GU08 update, i forgot to mention. i sent a ticket off to SOE to see if they could figure this out.

I've got exactly the same problem, Im from the UK though. Starting happening 3 days ago after working fine for over 120 hours. I've even uninstalled and re installed twice with no improvement.

Please let me know what they say.

never validate through steam, it will restore files to before the last updates of the gamelauncher making the game unplayable, and sometimes steam tries to redownload the whole game for nothing basically

i would try to go to the launchers settings and select verify game assets, it will update it to the last version+any missing files and then see if it still crashes if you start it from steam

I've tried validating files from the launcher and it still doesn't work, like i said over 120 hours working fine. This is a very strange problem, like the original poster says the game works fine without the steam launcher.

Seems a very rare problem camycamera. I have exactly the same problem and have tried every single solution so far without any success.

they responded saying they want to analyse my system by MSinfo and DX stuff, so yeah i did that and sent it. i'll let you know if they can do anything about it.

If you go to your planetside 2 folder under steam, the game will work perfect if you use the Lanuchpad there. It will not show up on Steam that your playing planetside though and you can't use the Steam overlay.

okay, here is the response:

"Thank you for sending those files. After looking at your account, it doesn't appear that you logged into Steam first with this game, which means that running the game through the Steam version will cause issues when trying to purchase items in the marketplace, so I would suggest that you use the non-Steam version either way. What you should be able to do is use the "Add Non-Steam Game" option to your Library and find our version of the game and add it to Steam. From there, that should allow you to run the game, as well as use the In-Game Overlay. If you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know. "

so, basically the problem occurs when you purchase something when you are using steam in PS2 using an account you made NOT via steam. that is why it was rare. funny, i had bought a crappy one use item, and unequipped it, 50 station cash, down the drain. and then this. hahaha.


so yeah, the only solution is to add PS2 as a non-steam game :( what a shame. but whatevs.

yeah... another problem... making a non-steam version run through steam does the exact same thing regardless... i guess we can't use the steam overlay with PS2 anymore :(

Hmm, the last two days ive tried to launch the game via steam and it worked but on both occassions only once. then when trying again i get the message. very very strange. Anyway thanks for the info.
