Is 30% headshot rate good?
Lately I've been trying to get better. Someone told me to check Honu to look at my stats, and it says I have a 30% headshot rate with my two most used guns (Orion and MAW). Is this acceptable, or should I seek to improve it further?

That's pretty good but it's always good to aim for better. 40% is a good number to strive for (in conjunction with good overall accuracy).

Be aware that headshot rate is an inaccurate stat, the game has no way to keep track of your headshots vs bodyshots per kill. It instead register every kill that ENDS with an headshot. You could land 2 headshots and the last 2 shots as bodyshots and the game will consider that 0% headshot rate instread of 50%. It's almost an useless stat in this form.

That's why you'll see most sniper mains with an absurdly high HS rate, game doesn't count all their bodyshots because they are most likely to kill with an headshot.

That said, 30% is a good value for an above average infantry player. Means that 1 in 3 of your kills ends with an headshot, from which you can imply you have a tendendecy to aim for the head in your infantry vs infantry scenario. Which is good.

30% is the AVG of the scale, but its not the average of the player base.
Most players are zerglings, and they dont get 30%. They get like 20-26. Edit: mabye even lower then 20.

I completely understand your concern about encountering high headshot rates in casual games. It's important to note that professional gamers have strict contract obligations that typically restrict their play to competitive environments and official events. This makes it highly unlikely to run into them in regular casual matches.

For instance, professional CS:GO player Nemanja "NiKo" Kovač has a career headshot percentage of 46.8%-56% Considering this, seeing headshot rates that exceed those of top Major League Gaming (MLG) players in a casual game can indeed raise suspicions. Such high accuracy is often a red flag, especially in games known to be easily exploitable. It suggests the possible use of aim assist technology or other cheats.

Even considering another poster's statement regarding how the stats are tracked by "last registered head shot on kill" would mean a individual must achieve even more of the "Planetside 2 type" of headshot to make the percentages add up -- thus it is even more likely those numbers are artificially generated.

So, don’t feel discouraged if your headshot rates don't match up to these suspiciously high numbers. Remember, even professional players have realistic and attainable statistics. Keep practicing and enjoying the game!
