PS2 is similar to the BF series in terms of gameplay; that is to say both games involve large open maps with vehicle and infantry combat, and the capping of points.
PS2 however is much larger is scale and scope. battles take place on a persistent and very large (5x5 km) maps dotted with a rather large number of bases and outposts. there are 3 factions in the game, all present on the same map and al 3 fight to capture each others territory. because of this, battles will flow between bases in a seamless fashion, rather than being round based where the game resets or loads a new map at the end of the round.
rather, combat will take very different turns depending on the situation. sometimes you end up in locations where combat primarily takes place indoors, at which point it will look a bit like team deathmatch. other times there will be heavy vehicle combat in open desert, air superiority etc and you will have to shift your loadout and tactics accordingly. there is always the objective to capture/defend the base though, so you have something to focus on.
you can unlock upgrades for most things in the game to tweak your play style, such as putting scopes or reflex sights on weapons, choosing between armor that will protect from bullets or explosion etc. there are few if any straight upgrades but rather tweaks with pros/cons. if find this aspect of the game very enjoyable as it lets you customize and play the role you prefer (and you can always expand into new roles as you see fit when you gain skill and certs).
if you liked the BF series you should definitely give PS2 a try. to me PS2 surpasses games of similar type, especially due to the scale and strategic freedom the game gives you. just don't be dismayed if you die a lot when starting out. it can take some time to get used to how the game works and combat can be quite deadly. i am battle rank 66 now and i have a K/D ratio of ~0.75 for reference so i am sure you will do fine once you get the hang of it. also, you can always ask on this forum if you have any questions about the game, equipment, tactics etc.
Rocket launchers, SMGs (which are OP with infilf@gs btw)MAX weapons and the best vehicle weapons are all 1000 certs, which are, even now,a pain a get (250 XP = 1 cert) or 7$ or 7€ (on which im calling BS right now,the euro has 0.37 more value then the $)
THE NC HAVE A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GUIDED MISSILE LAUNCHER!!!!
And if you have AP you are sacrificing your ability to take large groups of infantry, since you can only kill 1 guy with each AP shot, as I said Depot weapons uually fill in a single role, sacrificing the rest, this is even more true with vehicle weapons
A guided missie that leaves you compeltely exposed, has an arbitrary range limit, can't 1-shot infantry even with a headshot and reqiuires more ammo than you can carry to kill a MBT from the front
Just so that we end this sub-conversation. The player who has more weapons will outclass other players in different situations.I didnt say that the game is completly P2W,i said it had P2W issues. Its easier to buy weapons with real money and buying the weapons i mentioned with certs is a pain in the ass.I'm rank 50 and i get like 30-50 certs in a one hour session, sometimes more if i'm lucky. And that's just for weapons, remember that there are Class specific abilities that need upgrading as well.
Oh noes I have to 'play' a game for 20h to get a(most expensive) weapon that I can use for years....hell you probably need longer to unlock the ♥♥♥♥ in bf4
