PlanetSide 2

PlanetSide 2

This game or Foxhole?
Hey guys,

I played a little bit of PlanetSide 2 and also Foxhole and I'm not sure which game is better because you need to put in a lot of hours to learn either game. I feel like PlanetSide 2 could shut down and be removed from Steam for the playerbase is dying. Not sure about Foxhole but that game probably has a greater future.

Are there any other cool online games with factions to choose from? I like PlanetSide 2 and Foxhole because you can practically play those games with music playing in your Headphones. That being said would you recommend PlanetSide 2 or Foxhole for me or any other game? Is PlanetSide 2 still gonna be alive in 10 years?

They are very different games. PlanetSide 2 is an FPS game, it is much faster paced and requires a significantly higher degree of mechanical skill/ability. It plays a lot more like Battlefield than Foxhole. It is rewarding and enjoyable if you are the type of player who enjoys personal skill progression or achievement grinding, but it is extremely shallow in terms of the teamwork/strategic aspect. Many players quit after a few hours when the honeymoon wears off and they realise how braindead a lot of the gameplay actually is. PlanetSide 2 will be around for the next couple of years at least and currently feels very alive due to server merges in Europe and the US, so now is a good time to try it out if you're interested. It can be played completely for free so there is no reason not to try it before buying Foxhole.

Just try Planetside out, it's F2P. Though in terms of time investment I'd give Foxhole a chance if big scale combat on strategic levels are your thing.

Oh and don't expect Planetside to play like every other shooter, they did things differently in terms of gameplay design.... for better or for worse depends on personal preference
I just wanted a fun fps game that doesn't require you to learn much other than just aim and shoot well. That being said, I think I'll try A.V.A Global since I played A.V.A in its prime when ijji was around.

That was the best fps game I had ever played. A.V.A Global doesn't have many players though so if it's disappointing I'll try PlanetSide 2. Definitely Vanu Sovereignty on Miller.
PS2 being around for 'the next couple of years' is debatable, and theres no real way to know.

PS1 lasted 12-13 years, and PS2 is now at that same point.

The player base is dwindling and is not likely to gain any appreciable numbers - especially with the current server issues and the increase in cheaters, along with the [alleged] developers stating that they can only ban the account and that they'll just come back with another.

Even if it were around for a couple more years, its a shell of its former self. You may still find it fun.

That said, these games are very different.

People have been claiming this game will die "in a couple of years" every single year, for 12 years now. It is still doing fine, particularly now that the EU and NA servers have been merged. The simple reality that the doomsayers consistently ignore is that there is no equivalent game for PlanetSide 2 players to migrate to. It still has zero direct competition and there is nothing on the horizon threatening to change that. PlanetSide 2 has a core playerbase that is very loyal and who will only leave when they are forced to through server shutdowns or when a clear alternative arrives.

Server merges aren't really a sign of a healthy game though , and they were necessary years ago already

tHe sImpLe rEaLiTy

is that Planetside 2 is nothing like it used to be, and no one has been saying it is dying for 12 years. That started around 2016, and was accurate. The player base has been consistently fading since then, outside of a spike during COVID.

Planetside 1 had a small but loyal fan base too. Most PC games are like this. The servers still shut down, because there was no money in keeping them alive. Planetside 2 will survive for as long as people keep spending enough money to cover its operating costs. That may be 6 months, it may be 2 years, it may be 5 years. No one knows.

Ive heard Foxhole is very fun and does draw some parallels in that you have a role to play and that role is important to the overall match. I havent tried it myself; a couple guys in the Discord play it.

I dont have a game Im playing right now for FPS games....theres nothing like Planetside 2 out there. Battlebit is the closest and sometimes there are only a handful of full servers. People seem to be mad that there havent been any updates, though the game doesnt need any - its perfectly fun and nothing is wrong with it as is. Its a very satisfying game to play - everything from weapon handling to sounds feels good to play. A lot of the same dynamics PS2 has are present: classes, flanking, surprise attacks, and the environmental destruction is GREAT.

I have no replacement for Planetside 2...Ive just been playing other genres after 12-13 years of Planetside. I had ASP 100 characters on all factions - which means I played through to BR 100 twice on each one. (Thats a long, long grind) Its worth trying out; all it will cost you is time and hard drive space. I had a lot of fun with this game for well over a decade. It doesnt feel the same to me at all, but to someone that wasnt playing it in 2014, it may be perfectly fine.

A.V.A Global or Crossfire? I am severely tired of Counter-Strike 2, in fact I always had more fun in Counter-Strike Source and 1.6

Game that released in 2012 is "nothing like it used to be" in 2025. Are you proud of that one?
Foxhole is a fun ww2-esque game, but keep in mind that:
-it has top down view
-the game relies on logistics for everything, and logi is very tedious now
-and so is the amount of work needed to destroy and enemy base or take over a sector, it might take a long time before you see the front move forward
-you can genuinely be permbanned for insulting the wrong people, there are other people who claim to having been permbanned for something they didn't do, also you can get mass reported by jerks and autobanned, tho you can appeal that

these are the things that might bother you if you want to try foxhole.

The only thing PS2 and foxhole have in common is that they're both different forms of perpetual warfare

I play both. The're just wildly different. Similar, but wildly different. I love love love foxhole. But I come into PS2, mostly, for low-IQ, facerolling FPS -- quick death, quick spawn, easily pull a tank out -- it gets blown up, oh well I dont care...

In Foxhole. ..I really care when my tank gets blown up usually since Im the one who pulled the Comps for it, made it in the factory, and then loaded it up and drove it 2+ hexes to fight.

These are both great games, but PS2 is free, and Foxhole right now on sale is 20$. Get both, enjoy both.

Does foxhole suffer from redeployside?
