Moreover, I can't think of any shooter to go to after the closure, for me the genre of multiplayer shooters will die with Planetside, endless war without a stop session nowhere I've ever met.
It's sad that all sorts of Battleroyal and CoD clones are popular among current players, and they buy these games year after year as if from an assembly line. Unfair to planetside, I think even with all its flaws, it doesn't deserve that.
I actually always thought that Wrel would kill the game and get it shut down but he's been out of the picture now well over a year or two now. So we can't really blame him or anybody at Daybreak since they don't have control over the game anymore.

This was also addressed by Commander Cyrious - one of the PlanetSide2 Creator Content. It appears to be true. It's not surprising; it will inevitably happen given the low population. The merge of two servers demonstrates this low population.
Planetside 1 was better than Planetside 2 in every possible way, you could not even holster your weapon in 2. It took 12 years for them to- oh nevermind, they never learned.
At least we still have Planetside 1, which just celebrated it's 20th anniver- oh nevermind they shut that down too. At least fans can still run it on a Pentium Two in their basement for free, I guess.
I'll never forget working for SOE at SOE LIVE 2011 and shaking my head at the devs pushing "underwater combat" and hype things like snow skis on characters / vehicles. Insanity.
You want to make Planetside profitable? Hire Smokejumper, John Smedley and Sporkfire back and make ItZMurDA gameplay lead. Done.
God willing, maybe the IP will go somewhere else, and perhaps a studio that has a better foundation will take Planetside further. It's been an honor, gents. Always remember Auraxis.
I quit after the Sundy update anyway; it demonstrated Wrel-like prowess in balancing. Even before that nonsense, I felt like the end was coming. I was probably going to stop playing anyway. The game was an empty shell of what I experienced from 2012 to 2018ish. Still fun? Yeah sure. As fun as it used to be? Absolutely not.
Best to let the sun set with fond memories rather than cling to the last remnants of daylight only to watch it fade away.
As far as other games, I found Battlebit to be pretty fun on a couple of breaks. Nothing like Planetside, but it did scratch that itch. The destructability of the environment is pretty alright too. Theres really nothing out there that does what PS2 does...and PS2 doesnt even really do that any more.
Seems like an overreaction. For all you know, they might sell the game to a different company.
