Downloaded through Steam, then the planetside client downloads again??

So I got a new pc and decided to get Planetside2 again. I leave my pc running all night downloading 10 gig of files. When the Planetside 2 client appears I log in with my old details and then it proceeds to start downloading another 8 gig of files.

Is this normal?

Maybe, the Steam version of the game is known for being outdated all the time.

and whatever you do dont validate files with steam as it will delete files so you have to re-download with the client =P

This works similar to how it works with MMO games. The benefit is they are frequently updating.

This is not common. normally steam is nearly up to date and if not the launcher only gets the missing stuff but another 8 gigs is just typicall sony... bad programming and not givin a s h it about anyone ^^

This also happened to me.. just now.
Kinda makes me regret going through Steam - should have known better for a MMO game, but I'm sure there must be a better way!?
