^ This. In the first PlanetSide it was a narrow wheelbased, weaponless support vehicle (that was rather slow and topheavy as well) that you deployed inside a warp gate to gather energy, once its batteries were full you would then drive it to whatever base(s) were running low, then park and deploy it at the bases energy cells to refill them. In PS1 bases could run out of energy and go neutral, something you didn't want to have happen.
In PS2, the ANT is going to be used to gather some kind of materials and then can be deployed to create a small tower turret. In the future they are planning to have them able to build larger structures as well, but I doubt it will get any larger than a small bunker or some other kind of small defensible structure.
In PS2 it will still be a weaponless, and most likely slow vehicle.

when this vichles added?
Its supposed to get in as part of the big September patch, that is supposed to complete the resource revamp.
Posted on April First... That cant be good...
Any idea what else is going to be a part of this september patch? This sounds pretty awesome.
Also, I can't imagine anyone jumping at the opportunity to drive a big slow transport from WG to base that literally EVERY enemy will be shooting at.
In the first PlanetSide, it was a favorite pasttime of many people, myself included. There was nothing more fun than those desperate last second ANT runs to save a base that was under siege and low on energy. Plowing through enemy lines (because the roads were where the REAL danger was... landmines EVERYWHERE), running down as many infantry as you can along the way, driving like a madman swerving all the time in the hopes of dodging incoming tank shells... It was alot of fun. So much fun that many outfits used to run organised ANT races from time to time.
But the PS2 devs agree with you, which is why in PS2 the ANT is being changed into a small base building tool.
Base building tool? What do you mean by that exactly? Will it be like a sunderer but more able to defend itself? I heard it would be able to deploy a base gun (AI,AA,AT) and use that but I'm not entirely sure.
They keep talking about wanting to give us the ability to build bases and outposts.
hmmm could impliment a few ways. One is making struture have the ability to take so much damage, would be a lot might not be to well. Second makes a overload system causing it to collapse on itself, like a shield generator almost.
We really know nothing about how ANTs are going to work aside from the few mentions of structure building and gathering materials... we don't even know what these materials are going to be, it could be gathering energy from a warp gate (PlanetSide style) or perhaps nanites, or mabey they'll add some kind of mining nodes spread aorund the maps. Who knows.
Well I never got to play PS1 so I have no idea whether I would like it or not. For anyone who has played it, do you think that base building would add a bit more flavor into gameplay that could be used more effectively, or do you think it will washout the experience a little bit?
