PlanetSide 2

Performance tweaks?
I used to play this game many years ago and the performance is still terrible. I used to get similar framerates on my i5-2500k with a 1GB GTX650. Is there anything I'm missing? Any configuration or setting?

Game has all ways run like ♥♥♥♥ in bit battles.

I have a 14700k and a 4070TI and still get 40-60 FPS with a big battles.

This game is heavy cpu bound and dx11.

Try disabling shadows. It'll look kinda crappy at first, but you'll get used to it before you know it, and the performance gains are significant.

I really hope the devs do something about the performance and especially in huge battles. Guys, let us support the devs and the game. This is one of the legendary and beautifully crafted FPS of our time. Let us not lose it.

Yeah I did that, unfortunately doesn't make much of a difference in big battles. :( It does seem to run a tiny bit better on proton when I use a different cpu scheduler but I think the engine is just a complete spaghetti mess.

they have had a crap ton of our money over the years, still the same lol. they did 1 engine upgrade which gave us somewhat nicer graphics (at the cost of ditching nvidia physx which looks superior in special effects) but at the same time it made the game FAR more demanding on higher settings.

I wouldn't say this game is demanding or ever was. Back when dual and quad cores were the standard this game was a peak performance hogger, sure. But it wasn't because of the graphics, its because of the terrible engine utilization. I don't quite even understand why they added FSR and DLSS, since the gpu is barely even used running at standard resolutions.

This game use to need single core, and had problems using multi cores.
And when multicore became commen, thats NOT when this game fix it self.

No game fixes itself, I just think its jarring that after so many years and a directx version update they couldn't even fix performance and bugs that have been around since the games inception (fire rate tied to frame rate etc.)

Fire rate is only impacted if you have below 60 fps. anything above is less impact full then been below 60.

This have been known since 2018.

Large battle performance is often largely limited by CPU stats. Your processor's cache size plays a big role.

This is a little old, but the explanations are still relevant:

Bro I'm gonna have to ask how because I get way more with way worse specs? I don't have max settings but pretty high. I play on 1440p
