I have 16gbs of vram now
I have a 14700k and a 4070TI and still get 40-60 FPS with a big battles.
This game is heavy cpu bound and dx11.
Yeah I did that, unfortunately doesn't make much of a difference in big battles. :( It does seem to run a tiny bit better on proton when I use a different cpu scheduler but I think the engine is just a complete spaghetti mess.
they have had a crap ton of our money over the years, still the same lol. they did 1 engine upgrade which gave us somewhat nicer graphics (at the cost of ditching nvidia physx which looks superior in special effects) but at the same time it made the game FAR more demanding on higher settings.
I wouldn't say this game is demanding or ever was. Back when dual and quad cores were the standard this game was a peak performance hogger, sure. But it wasn't because of the graphics, its because of the terrible engine utilization. I don't quite even understand why they added FSR and DLSS, since the gpu is barely even used running at standard resolutions.
And when multicore became commen, thats NOT when this game fix it self.
No game fixes itself, I just think its jarring that after so many years and a directx version update they couldn't even fix performance and bugs that have been around since the games inception (fire rate tied to frame rate etc.)
This have been known since 2018.

Large battle performance is often largely limited by CPU stats. Your processor's cache size plays a big role.
This is a little old, but the explanations are still relevant:
