On the upside, they also increased all the lock-on rockets' damage to compensate for their increased specialisation.
Of course, all this means is that I use my Shrike and Phoenix more than I did before.
And the major issue with the Annihilator is that it cannot be dumbfired, making it useless for taking out MAX units, and doubly useless if your vehicle targets are too close or have any kind of cover available. It doesn't help that it has a longer lock-time than the single-purpose lock-ons.
The Phoenix is also a useful trick to have up your sleeve, but is really only useful in support with other Phoenixes or other Anti-armor weapons. Often you can sneak a kill shot in when enemy armor ducks behind "safe" cover to repair, finishing what others start.
The Decimator is a dumbfire that hits harder and travels slower than your default one. It's really useful in Biolab fights against MAXs, and if you get used to the added lead and drop it could potentially replace your default entirely. It doesn't do much that the default launcher doesn't do, however, and because of a strange quirk in vehicle resistances it currently does less damage to Sunderers than the default launcher. (As does the Phoenix, for some reason.)
They're all useful and valid choices. If you like the default launcher enough to stick with it though, none of them are strictly necessary.
Sometimes you can scare off ESF by just locking on.
Also, its an air defense that doesn't cost you resource, like a max.
