PlanetSide 2

PlanetSide 2

Worth playing in 2024?
So, after a long patch of exclusively playing singleplayer games, I'm gradually getting back into PvP multiplayer games. I used to love Planetside 2, but eventually just got bored of it. What's the state of it in 2024? I'd be playing on US East, and I'd be fine with rolling up a new character if I need to change factions; I bought plenty of cross-faction bundles back when I did play.

Yes.

Despite the saltiness of the players. (Mine included)

I can gurantee that 80% - 90% of of the experience has been nice.

Won't be easy at the start, and there some few things you might disagree with but the game is massive and great.

Just try it, although I read that Connery is dead so choose Emerald.

It also has 2.000 players less since a few months, so outside of prime time it could get a bit empty ingame
only if you are fine with getting nonstop farmed for at least 200 hours before reliably getting kills by people that have been playing daily for years and years, many of whom are running some sort of soft cheat
worth a try just to experience it as there is nothing else quite like it and the game is probably not gonna be around for too much longer

Game got sold recently so there’s a decent chance there won’t be any more substantial updates or content coming. Population is pretty low as a result so prime time is the only 2 hour window where you can get the massive PlanetSide experience as advertised. US East is the best region to play the game in as its one of the only servers with high enough population to sustain the experience.

If you’re wanting to give the game one last try before the end, that would be fair as it is a unique game but the experience is pretty abysmal at this point with no hope for the future.

Alright then, I'll probably let it stay the way it is in my memories.

No. I've been playing for years and my KDR is 0.28 because I have a life, and the people who play this game do not.

Dude, your ignorance is admirable, but he's 100% right. People cheat in this game all day, every day and they have been for years.

Well, to be fair: Steam ingame time isnt necessarily the excact time spent in this game...
I got 1200 hours clocked in steam, but most of my game time is when i used the client from the official site.

it has sold to another company so there is still a future for this game, and enough people play it still,

But yes it has seen better days, but you can stil enjoy this for the next 2+-3 years (without any updates)

And i smel updates and changes incomming since the buy out / buy in so yeah, give it a try Its free and not so big to instal on the hard drive.

Even if you just want to have fun for 30 min its great to enjoy.

The game is pretty hard on new players, but once you get the hang of it and unlock the right guns/attachments it can be pretty rewarding (you can trial test weapons for 30 minutes without any attachments).
Don't expect the game to play like COD where one player can destroy an entire lobby by themselves. You'll be lucky to get 2 to 3 kills before dying.
Snipers/infiltrators are fairly loathed within the community, but its not easy getting a kill with a sniper - especially at long range. I personally find playing with a sniper rifle especially rewarding - I mean you're gambling with each shot and each shot is an educated guess (both in terms of measuring distance and guessing where the enemy might shift to in less than a second).
