Ever played Battlefield? It's kinda like that. So, unless you've played them, there's no really steep learning curve. You just need to develop a wider sense of awareness.

Make sure you go on Koltyr until you're level 15, that'll help you become accustomed.

As long as you learn how to find battles and not overstep you will be fine. One thing to note is that people will have maxed out nanoweave armor and other certed out (in game points spent on) skills so you will be at a slight disadvantage. Also the guns aren't just point and shoot (aside from a few) so you will have to adjust to the recoil and compensate for bullet velocity, height, etc..something that cod players have a hard time with since they are so used to point and shoot.

I started this game about a year ago, and it took me about a month to fully understand the background and relative 'objective' of the game, 2 months to stop dying immediantly after every respawn, 3 months to learn how to find and be effective in battles, another 2 months to be able to effectively control recoil, and deal with bullet velocity, and 4 months to somewhat master flying ESF's. So to answer your question, the learning curve is pretty steep. However, it is very fun and addicting once you understand the game. The community is amazing, and more experienced players will almost always help newer players improve. All that is truly required to improve is patience, and time.
Theres no learning curve, when you start you will say the enemys guns are stronger, better...everything will seem stronger than what you have and thats because it is, you need 100+ hours or some investment with your steam wallet to make the game any fun

Given the retention problems this game has maybe Daybreak should try a new marketing angle.

Planetside 2 commercial:

scene 1: A bedraggled engineer runs up to the camera.

engineer says: "Listen and understand! Planetside 2 is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."

scene 2: The camera pans over to the engineer in a corner, he's curled in a ball, rocking back and forth. Then the back of a MAX steps in front of the camera. Gunshots and screams are heard as the screen fades to black.

a message appears on the screen: Planetside 2 the Terminator of MMOFPS. Are up for the challenge?

The learning curve is massive when flying, big when tanking and noticable when playing infantry, but due to the long time to kill, if you stay in a group, no matter how good someone is they won't be able to kill everyone. That is the same the other way around, don't go into a zerg and expect to win, choose your fights that suit you and won't get farmed as much. Play a supporting role at first to learn how the game works then start playing more aggressively, but remember to do it in a group.

Climbing Mount Everest on ice skates backwards, unless you take the time to do some research to avoid misconceptions.

funny post with a weird question... its an FPS with all the contraptions of mordern day shooters, open ended, completely different action and adaptive gameplay. the learning curve is NOT steep, go to where to action is, aim, and fire... support classes are equally as important and killing is far far far from the only way to get xp.

False. You can buy all the guns in the game and still sucks balls and not win a 1v1 not even if your life depended on it.

Moreover, the starting guns are the best all-rounders in the game and some high tier players still use those after thousands of hours.

The only place new players will suffer imbalance is the vehicle play where you need some certs investment in order to be competitive. But since you CANNOT buy certs with real money, the only way to achieve that is actually play the game long enough to git gud.

Kinda like any other game around.

Stop spreading false information because you are butthurt. If you suck at PS2 that's your fault, not PS2.
