Depends on what you play.
If you play mostly infantry 1000m is sufficient and will definitely boost your performance.
If you drive vehicles you might want to up that, even more so if you fly in the air. In these cases the higher you can raise the bar without losing performance the better.
I'm 99% infantry player and I play with 1000m render distance and 100% render quality. Works fine for me ;)
Ye, if I remember correctly built-in render distance for vehicles and infantry is 1000m. So that's the minimum you have to sustain or you'll lose rendered objects.
Higher render distance is good for drivers and pilots because it renders terrain and other static objects further away thus improving your manouvering and planning.
1000m is the suggested minimum, above that will help your life as pilot or driver but won't give you an advantage in redering people or vehicles.
Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.
Hi Man, so i'm running planetside 2 on a 4790K @4.6Ghz and a gtx 680
i've set all graphic options to max including render distance 6000, But what i recommend you to do is disable shadows (you will also bennefit from this in locating enemy soldiers) and turn off fog shadows. done! that's all you need to disable and turn off.
I play with at least 130 fps and in big battles i'll keep a minimum of 60 fps with drops to 55 fps if they are really BIG.
Planetside 2 has gone through some changes last years , when i started playing PS2 back in early spring of 2013 the framerates where very very low.
with a result my K/D is 1.444 for my first character. Because i have killed thousands of players and died thousands of times i can not even it out or get my K/D higher so easy. It means i have to play like hundreds of hours and maintain a 5.0 K/D for example.
My second character is doing very good given that i mainly play infantry and infiltrator
it's K/D is at 2.0 but the more i kill the higher it will be
I hope i've given you some good tips on the graphic settings, remember the render distance is not only heavy on your gpu because it has to render further away but also the draw calls will increase so your cpu has to keep up also.
To ease out your cpu you could lower the flora setting to let's say medium or low then the discance rendering will be less intensive.
Cheers mate
Infantry stops rendering earlier than vehicles.Render distance is dependant on load to CPU.Infantry drops before vehicles.
True, but nothing render over 1000m, that's the point of it. In a very dense fight people could theoretically render @ 3 meters (ever played an intense server smash? :D) but that does not change the fact that 1000m is the maxium distance at what things render. So if you set your render distance at 1000m you should be fine as far as vehicles and people are concerned.
I dont do air at all.
If you do like to fly, especialy the faster air vehicles you make a choice. Increase your render distance or have "scenery pop in".
Infantry and vehicles all have different values between 800 and 1000M depending on loadout.
Medics for example have no long range AV but engineers and MAXEs do so they have different MAX render ranges. This allows you "theoreticaly" to return fire on everything thats shooting you.
If your only intersted in the in your face infantry play then you can quite happily have a render distance of 500. Most of the time base fights are that hectic the game takes over anyway, drops your render distance down dynamicaly and you will see "popin" anyway.
The massive render distances in the 3,4,5,6000s allow you to see across continents. In some places you can be at one warpgate and see the enemies in the distance. Theres no reason at all for this, your just rendering stuff that has no impact on your gameplay.
