Survivalist is a good general pick for infantry, as it requires no additional thought/effort from you to be useful.
Turret jockey engineer with Jockey + Robo tech makes a good turret monkey for engineer.
Combat Surgeon makes medic incredibly durable.
Logistics Specialist is good if you like pulling MBT's/Harassers/Combat ANTs since it allows squad spawns
Sweeper Hud is basically useless until T5 because it can't quite save you from mines consistently until then.
Ammo Printer untethers you from ammo towers/ammo sundies as a tanker and I run it a good chunk of the time for that reason.
Assimilate is an excellent implant on most classes if you can maintain a decent head shot ratio and makes Heavy Assault up time nearly 100% if you win those 1v1's.
Engineer I use Sweeper HUD and Ammo Printer as a driver. I use Target Focus as a Gunner and dont really have a preferred second implant. Sweeper HUD if your driver doesnt have it is standard though.
Also, as a Battle Engineer Survivalist and ASC work wonders. I dont have a 'normal' preference on second implant outside of Assimilate, because I am usually running Infravision as infantry. I do also have Bionics and have a loadout that uses that with Survivalist and ASC. Your shield regen is amazingly good compared to other classes. People often rush me as Battle Engie thinking Im hurt only to get there and Im back at full health/shields. And when you ASP, it gets even better. Give yourself AR access and Shotgun Secondary to equip a PA shotty and youre damn near untouchable as an Engineer.
If you can kill consistently with headshots, Assimilate is great.
Combat surgeon + assimilate is great for aggressive medics, great upkeep since killing with HS restore your, shields and gives you nanite healing charge back for even more self-healing.
If you manage to get your hands on Carapace, Combat Surgeon + Carapace is God Tier combo for Medic. Just beware of chip damage, it's your worst enemy. Take nanite healing, resto kits and maybe even healing nades and you become super tanky. Like a mini-heavy.
For more creative players, Catlike 5 is also fantastic, allows you to attack from crazy angles and bypass a lot of map restrictions.
Personally I run my medic with Combat Surgeon + Assimilate. Once I got Carapace, Combat Surgeon + Carapace and never looked back.
Survivalist is ok too if you don't have much ISO to invest in other implants.
Can't speak for engi because in my 8000+ hours I barely played it lol.
The invis on rez can be useful on occasion; for instance my team died to a max crash and I throw out a rez nade before the wipe, and the now invisible team mates might have an extra second to chuck a C4 in the max's general direction.
TLDR The choice is situational and skill dependant. Just look at implants and gear used by people who constantly kill you. I personaly love sensor shield when playing grunt because it lets me jump unsuspecting people. I used it in ps1 too
Aerial Combatant 5 + Paratrooper 4 (or 5), for Light Assaults using drifter jet is also wicked fun
Robotics Technician 5 + Electrotech 5 on Engineers with maxed out Anti-infantry Turrets makes you a nuclear powered murder machine on point holds
Mobility Mesh 5 + Nanomesh Specialist 5 on Heavy Assaults make you a fast walking tank IMO
Combat Surgeon 5 + Phylactery on Nano-Regen SMG Medic is amazing
Battle Hardened 5 + Heavy Weight 5 on MAXs for MAX Crashes is pretty slick, or slap on Phylactery in place of Heavy Weight for some fun too
Lots of different styles of play can be mixed and matched from the implants though, so in reality your goal should be to collect them all... like collecting Poki-mon. I'm still collecting my last four (until more are added probably). Scavenger, Berserker, Bionics and Firewall.
As someone who likes to be a 'counter-operative' to whatever I consider the biggest threat to the macro of my team's fight at the moment - I find people who run 'counterintelligence' and 'sensor shield' to be the most difficult to kill.
