Power knife - One hit kill if you can turn it on and hit them before they realise you just did that because it makes a load of noise both when you first get it out and even more without end when you turn it on.
It also swings a little slower than a normal knife.
It's not necessity by any means. Though it is fun.
Prsonally when I started using the powered knifeI had to reorganise my keyboard to place the switch fire mode button much closer to the cloak button. So at a moments notice I could;
Activate, decloak, hit, recloak, depower.
In one quick go. Infi's that try to sneak up on people, get the knife out right behind their target and/or with the knife already turned on tend to get shot at. A lot.
Just as Amannoob105 said.
But then again, I play with the VS knife, which is vastly superior to the other two. Not because of stats, just because it has the least noticeable sound of the three. Which is the reason the TR power knife is useless. There's nothing in the game that makes a chainsaw noise, but there's plenty of things that make a low hum.
I also use adrenaline pump to help me catch up with people who are running away from me who haven't seen me yet.
