Select Faction Warpgate As NS?

I get the point being "randomly" assigned to a faction but the game keeps putting me into VS, even when I try to log back in and switch continents.

Would be cool I guess if the game lets you manually choose a faction for a limited time when a continent unlocks (e.g. 5mins) then hardlocks people into "random" afterwards.

You can, it's called picking a "Home Faction" but you have to be a member to do that.

As a Freelance (Which is what your are now at the moment), NSO does not randomly assign you to a faction, it assigns you based on the Population of the factions on that continent.

The reason why are you being put in Vanu is because that faction has less population out of the other to at that moment.

I haven't tried this myself but I heard rumor that as NSO you can just use the three VR training rooms to select a faction to deploy from there into a continent. might see some salty people in the comment section for exposing this if it ends up being true.
