PlanetSide 2

PlanetSide 2

Is the NSO worth a return?
I played the original Planetside on release (yes, I am that old) and was enthralled by the huge battles.

Fighting down to the lower levels of a base to take out the spawn tubes without blowing the generator (considered poor form); last minute ANT drops into the middle of a besieged base from a Lodestar, light vehicle drops from Galaxies behind enemy lines to disrupt their ANTs.

So when P2 came out I played it was well. I still don't think it has the same tactical and strategic layers found in the original, but I take it for what it is.

Played it, leveled to max a character in each faction, bought all the weapons and vehicles (minus the 'seasonal skins') and pretty much tried to hang through all the questionable changes - no offense all you Wrel roadies.

Started to get a bit long-in-tooth so I have been on a sabbatical so to speak.

With that all said my question is really to the old timers who have weathered the changes over time; is the new NSO release compelling enough to come back or is it merely a 'reskin' Do the robots play differently?

All in, NSO really is just a balancing tool to fill out lower pop factions. It's super popular right now, and would say its doing its job well. Infantry play is not going to give you a new experience. What little I've played, weapons are not bad, gives me a vanu feel. They added in a couple new NSO only vehicles that add nice new gameplay experience if you're into that. New MBT, and 2 man ESF.

I personally like it, and have been playing NSO since the update and enjoying the heck out of it.

The negatives about the new update for me, 1. Subs allow NSO faction players to "choose" a home faction + join outfit. Which in my opinion defeats the entire purpose of NSO. 2. Rumble seat repairs are no more, can't have a engi repair Valks/Harrassers from seat. 3. As a vet, I can easily distinguish who's who, but it can be difficult sometimes when it comes to NSO. Enough to make you second guess and get killed over it. Newer players will mow you down. Used to not be an issue, but there's a lot of NSO players running around.

to many bots as in nso bots

Played since day one beta and playing still. Planetside is a beast I always come back to.

If you are looking for some innovative stuff that's gonna change your experience and blow your mind like "whoooooooa this feels like a completely different game now" then no. NSO play exactly like every other faction. You have some overpriced new weapons (1000 certs for everything) which are mostly... ok... bunch of new vehicles if that's your thing and the chance to play "freelance" hopping from one faction to another to shoot your former friends (if that's not confusing to you).

So, all in all it's the same stuff. Core gameplay is still the same, you just have some new stuff to try out. As a person that auraxed all weapons on all 3 factions on multiple servers it's something new to keep you interested for a bit until the next time you burn out and take some months hiatus.

So: new revolutionary thing? Nope. Game still the usual. Some new toys to have fun and grind for a while? Sure.
Thanks all for the information.
I'd say it's worth a try, as I've done that myself. NSO and the newish containment site bases on Esamir are pretty fun imo, worth checking out. I'm not sure if I'll keep playing since core issues that cause me alot of frustration still remain, but for now I'm having a blast playing NSO.
I wish I had a few of the NSO weapons for my TR engie.
