there are still some mid to long range options like the NS gorgon, but its widely innaccurate and more for shooting at vehicles than infantry. great weapon to have when your sittin in the back seat of a harrasser though. not so much for pushing or defending a biolab.
VS i only have experience in dying too but they are pretty well balanced, decent anti vehicle and infantry weaponry, decent skill curve on em, i cant for the life of me remember what their ability does anymore. im used to when it made them weaker but they dolled out more damage, i think its different now. and as for weapon names i dont know em.
NC maxes still have their role to play though, with their shield ability they can become instant cover for a doorway or a push forward, they can use this to get in better range for their shotguns which, despite not having slug rounds, still hurt a lot at close range. 1 pull of the trigger on eacha rm and it still dies.
Of those, I'd suggest the Scattercannon since it's the standard gun, and you'll only need to buy one of them to make an anti infantry max.
