Don't forget Connery's massive contingent of Chinese players. Also, both Connery and Emerald are US servers.
Cobalt has historically always had among the best air pilots in the game. Looking at the stats for this post-game analysis, Cobalt had ~1000 kills with banshee+lolpods combined, while Emerald had ~100 combining airhammer+pods. Looking beyond numbers and into the actual experience, loosing air support means a lot of (if not all) the focus of enemy pilots will be on A2G and a lot of damage will be spread out over your ground units when trying to push objectives (e.g. a point room or a certain building). This usually leads to situations where your ground units are so weakened by the A2G spam that the breaching power is almost nullified (imagine a couple of dead bodies per squad just to reach the point, a lot of people without overshields, momentum is lost as revives are necessary etc).
Of course you could try to counter this with AA buses, skyguards or other means of air deterance, but the limited effectiveness these provide against competent pilots coupled together with the amount of resources it costs (both in nanintes and soldiers) makes this an unfeasable tactic to use. In the end, these are resources that you rather want to spend on attacking or defending bases.
With the air-roles reversed, this match could have turned out very differently, as I felt that the enemy infantry teams were quite strong, especially when backed up by well-placed sunderers, but then again my platoon was also playing against one of the arguably better-stacked platoon (at least according to the post-game statistics) in the Emerald SS roster. I still think Cobalt would have won the game, since practically every participating outfit had been training for this smash, but it would definitely be much more difficult without the kind of air support that we had tonight (I have been on the receiving air of A2G spam a couple of serversmashes as well, so I know that feeling).
If there is anyone from Emerald reading this thread, thanks for the hard fights in the north lane and for not giving up until the very end (good defense on Mani Tower as well as Nortpoint Station to deny us the early win)!

They were already playing on Connery when they had their own servers and after SOE/DBG shut them down...well...they were still playing on Connery.
