Any way to turn off/mod out things?
I love the old school feel to this. The only annoying thing is the interaction with the town. I'd like to just spend my time exploring the dungeon, but It's impossible with the town always in chaos.

Can I shut off the town interactions?

The game is very modable, it's just editing text files. You could probably accomplish this by just disabling the quests you don't want to do. In my QOL mod I gave the towns people a touch more life, made the hunger quests a little less frequent and had them give you a little more time to solve them.

During the start you can tweak some settings. Also setting the stress level lower.

In general this game tends to be challenging. Which is great if you can get over it. But - from time to time - some tasks may be too challenging. And then you lose. It's part of the game. If you win the next time you know what you accomplished.

Yeah, I messed with the settings. It was ok, but not quite what I wanted. I'm looking for just a dungeon crawl. No quests, no story, just something to slay monsters and collect loot. Nothing seems to fit the bill so far. Closest I've found is ...

but it's a Vampire Survivors style game. No real loot hunt and having to restart my character over after 30 mins.

Din's Legacy is the sequel to this game that can be more focused on the dungeon and fighting. It's got a bunch of scenarios rather than just "save the town" so you can pick ones that you like better. Also the town usually requires a lot less management, at most fight of something that's attacking the town.

And Diablo I and II didn't fit the bill?
