GFWL needed?
Do you actually need GFWL to play RE5?

Nope.

The GFWL installer is in the game, but it's needed only if you're migrating your save data from your LIVE profile.

If you're playing fresh, you can disregard GFWL installer prompt altogether.

NO, wbacon, it's not working without GFWL, even though I am playing fresh. It still needs GFWL to be installed and running and it shows that CMD window with an error. If I am cancelling the GFWL installation it doesn't even start, with GFWL it starts despite the CMD window. That happens on a Windows 10 x64 machine.
Please fix your game, Capcom: if you say GFWL is removed, then remove it. You should follow Arkham City or Dark Souls examples of how to do it, as right now GFWL is still there, fine and dandy and mandatory for the game to run. Dissapointing...

I misspoke on the GFWL client install. The game needs it as a part of the game's installation process. However, the game only uses the GFWL client's xlive.dll portion when you enter the "IMPORT WINDOWS LIVE PROFILE" mode for importing GFWL save data. GFWL client will remain dormant and there's no need to launch the client to play RE5.

The command prompt error seems to be a recent occurence and an issue unique to Windows 10, though it should not affect gameplay. You can leave the CMD prompt alive in the background or simply close it after the game launches.

What's so difficult in removing the whole GFWL client and .dll from the game? Other publishers did it, why Capcom can't do it, too? Right now Resident Evil 5 on Steam seems like an amateur homebrew port made by some kids, not by a big company.

They saw an oppurtunity to cashgrab people for the DLC, they took it and now that they've made a profit they see no reason to support it further.

I mean, that's business. Shoddy business but it makes sense. In the eyes of some developers (especially Japanese) they are just now starting to see PC as a profitable market so they give it the very minimal amount of support, in this instance they add trading cards instead of a working game.

The kind of depressing takeaway from this is that Capcom knew RE5 on PC had a communtiy so they finally added in the DLC after literal years of waiting but didn't even care enough to support the product after the money came in.

(And no, I don't consider one patch after the fact with a tiny changelog to be support, especially since people to this day are getting errors upon launching the game and in a lot of cases crashes)

Let us not forget the missing graphics options (DX10 support) from the so-called Steamworks version. Tehnically, this is not a steam version, GFWL still being present and mandatory to run the game. I still hope they will do a proper steam port, as the game really deserves it.

Please do research. It's all explained in an easy manner (News, Announcements). No need for a topic on forums.

Winsows 7, I have that command prompt error too. I didn't have it before.
Anyone else have that error on win7?

Holy hell can you remove GFWL completely already? When there is a disease you cure it, when there is a cancer you cut it out, GFWL is both these things, can you cure your product please Capcom it's ill, thank you.

My game won't start at all. I get a window that says res = 1, err = 0x00000057, The Parameter is incorrect.

Since Capcom is either incapable of or unwilling to fix their own game: http://steamcommunity.com/app/21690/discussions/0/541906989413705982/

and wbacon, the command prompt error is not related to Windows 10, I'm on 7 and had it until I applied the above fan patch. It showed up without GFWL installed, and still showed up with it installed although the game ran anyway.

humm, Humble bundle , being so bad over the last 6 months, (If you've noticed the horrible bundles of .50 cent junk they've been doing, and not even on time..lol) I seriously considerd this new one. But checking out the games offered, it seems to be all the bugged/abandoned ones they could find. This new bundle in the end has Stryder, RE Revelations (Not #2), and the only really Awesome on being DMC (But I already have it). I think this thread just finally talked me out of the whole thing..lmao. Just not enough in it to justify even 9$. Figured i'd at least be picking up Stryder, revelations and RE5. But No way am I dealing with this mess, I already have to have that abomination known as UPLay on my machine for a couple of GIFTED games, GFWL is going no where NEAR my system! :sadpanda:

I was about to buy this game on Humble Bundle as well before I saw that you still need GFWL installed on your computer. ♥♥♥♥ that.
