i am getting same error too after updating steam client.
But everything with game is ok.

Anybody able to get this to work? I've been trying for the past few hours and still cannot get the game to load. Same error. Window loads up, goes back to desktop and game just sits there as a black screen.

The error changes absolutely nothing in the game, you can still play it perfectly fine. Still, it seems like the error is related to the remains of GfWL left in the game. Try downloading the misc. community fix, that made it disappear for me. All of the fixes (including a few pathfinding fixes that are still a drop in the glass of pathfinding bugs) are in a pinned thread, go look for them.

I finally got the game to work by closing out steam, then right-cllicking launcher.exe and running as admin. tried tons of different things and this was a weird one that works for my windows 10. All my games are buggy now because of win 10
