Resident Evil 5
the specified module could not be found
i need some help.

i played this game just fine after the first initial patches that added steamworks support.

i took a hiatus for a few months

today i noticed they added trading cards so i decided to launch the game and get those to drop
I've never uninstalled the game at any point during this hiatus

NOW i get a little black window and an error sound. the little black window looks like DOS
it says the specified module could not be found

if i go into the folder and click the re5dx9 application , it says "the program can't start
because xlive.dll is missing from your computer"

I'm afraid if i delete and reinstall, i'll lose all my progress. I was right at the end when i had to take a break out of frustration. (second playthrough, it was on professional when i stopped, so i had unlocked and bought a whole bunch of stuff)

i do have the steam cloud saving sync stuff so i'm going to try and delete and do a fresh reinstall. i really hope i don't lose my progress.

update !

so once the game was finished, it prompted me to install games for windows live
(why? ♥♥♥♥ if i know)
first i declined, and the same thing kept happening.
second time i tried to play the game, i agreed to install everything.

the little window still pops up, BUT the main game does load in another window.
weird thing is it is still steamworks (thank god) and games for windows live is nowhere to be seen, as i tried pressing HOME to bring up the overlay. nothing happens , so that's good.

also had to allow a permission past the firewall

so the game is playable now, and is steamworks enabled and i didn't lose any data. the little window that says the module couldn't be found always pops up though.

i'm going to leave this up incase someone else stumbles across and gets help from it.
i sure don't understand what's going on, but when it works, i'll just accept it.

I have the same issue I guess. Black window D:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 5\Launcher.exe pop up on game startup that says "res = 1, err = 0x0000007e, The specified module couldn't be found." The game starts up fine even with that happening, but I'd like it fixed. I can close it after the game starts and it's still fine. But if I try to just start the game by running the Launcher in the folder, or the re5dx9 application the game just crashes on start up with Resident Evil 5 has stopped working window. I was really playing this game a lot early last month and it never used to do this.

You guys are lucky that the game at least open. I have the same problem, but my game always crashes on start up.

I don't have a clue of how to fix it.

Putting this file into the game folder should fix the crashes.

Thanks for the help. That did fix part of it. So now if I go into the game folder and run the launcher it starts up with no issue and the little window comes up and disappears instantly. But I still get window issue staying open with the module couldn't be found error when I try and launch the game with the Steam created shortcut or in Steam itself.

I'm getting the exact same "DOS" like window popping up as well, very annoying especially since I like to use Steam in big picture mod... funny thing, I didn't get this error before the gold "upgrade" :/
