In RE5 you have to deal with Sheva who can either be the best or the worst AI partner ever but I liked the game better... Except for the final bossfight which I never completed because I rage quit after an hour.
Either way, don't play it alone. Both games are way more enjoyable with a co-op partner.
For me RE5 is better and more enjoyable game though, and it's quite more customizable. Sure you have more characters to play as in RE6 but each character has their fixed loadout and you can't change that at all.
RE5 is a shorter game but you have quite more freedom and customization, and replayability, and I think it's overall a more solid game. RE5 knows it's pure action TPS that doesn't give a sh¡t about horror, RE6 promises you to deliver at least one Survival Horror campaign but you'll soon realise it's just a lie, it's basically a game that tries to be everything and tries to please everyone but fails at it. With RE6 you don't know what game are you playing at times :)
As Resident Evil games they're both crap anyway, so I'd take that out of the equation. But as action TPS they're both fun and enjoyable, you should decide by yourself.
re6 is a also a fun game but i don't like much the campaing (personal opnion) it have a few campaings that try to be different being a puzzle/action/horror and like they are not bad but at the same time not "amazing" either, the solo experience is bad u ai partner is a cheater and is like it don't exist at all, re 5 partner ai is alot better and is acctualy playing the game with u so u can have fun playing solo too.
RE6 has better controls/camera (RE5 controls are pretty outdated by today's standards), RE6 has better combat with much more fun melee options, RE6 also has much more content to play through (4 major campaigns, 7 playable characters against 1 major campaign with 2 characters + two smaller DLCs with two extra characters in RE5). RE6 side modes are also better.
RE5 has good level design that is much better from RE6 (level design in 6 is mostly just bad with lots of corridors where it would have been much better to have arenas), co-op in RE5 is more fun because you can actually share items with your partner, making the cooperation part of co-op more engaging, UI in RE5 is much better too (RE6 inventory UI is a compete and utter mess for example). The story in RE5 is more engaging and focused while RE6 plot is kinda all over the place.
RE6 is full of annoying QTEs, but it is actually possible to turn those off in options, which is great (and which I recommend you do from the start). RE5 has much less QTEs, but you can't turn those off. RE6 also suffers from a bunch of stupid vehicle sections. Cut-scenes are absolutely awesome in both games.
So basically I say you should evaluate which co-op options you have first. Otherwise if you value smooth controls and great combat above all else, go with RE6, if you value everything else above smooth controls and great combat, go with RE5.
RE6 uses modern control mechanics, completed with a surprisingly extensive close-combat system. It is also divided to four separate campaigns with separate play styles: one action survival horror that tries to emulate RE4; one that is almost literally a reskinned Gears of War 2; one that relies mostly on QTE chase sequences which you have to memorise to avoid the many cheap instant deaths; and one where they threw in every leftover idea from sneaking to helicopter combat.
The problem is that the level design is bad and the enemy design is worse, and the game reuses bosses so often that it became an actual meme.
Also, the bonus system sucks. You can only use three of the unlocked dozens of bonuses, whereas RE5 lets you use every bonus you managed to grind out.
