Will I go to hell if I listen to metal music?
Now I know that Jesus is traditionally depicted as a metalhead, but I always kinda assumed it was because he absorbed all the sin of the world into himself which made him look like an evil devil worshiping hippie.
So my question is, is it okay to listen to metal music? Especially the evil songs from the evil bands about Satan and sin?

I don't think so. Unless you're glorifying Satan.

Nah, absolute rubbish. Just look at Alice Cooper, devoted man of God who works in soup kitchens when he isn't touring.
It depends on the type of metal music. For example, when one listens to Slayer one is already in hell. Contrastingly, listen to Powerwolf's song "In the Name of God (Deus Vult)", and tell us what you think.

To counter the negative effects of metal music, you have to have a rosary with you, specifically a Combat Rosary/Battle Rosary.

1 John 2:15-17
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

If you sincerely love metal music then yes, God will use that against you one day. "Love not the things that are in the world"

This is a post that I had to chime in on being a music man my whole life. I am not one to judge anyone, except the blatant and obvious demon, I will go there indeed. But in Terms of Music, I Love Rock n Roll and all types of music, from all cultures around the world. I like Heavy Metal, as long as it does not praise anything evil, even the band Judas Priest changed their tune on how they wrote their lyrics, they went from sounding Pro-Devil to Lyrics that sounded more like defending Christ. I do not personally listen to anything that praises the devil or evil deeds. I want to conclude that I love songs about GOD, Jesus and things that are good and pure, but it would be a lie to say I like all Christian songs, I love Good Christian songs, that are actually a good song, if a song is about Jesus or GOD that is good thing, but I am not going to lie and say I like songs about GOD/Jesus or Christianity that I do not think are good songs. You cannot lie to Jesus about anything, including music. There is plenty of Heavy Metal, where the artist was intelligent enough, to not even touch on evil boundaries. I would not even like a POP song that dares to tread there, it is weak minded writing. Real Rockers can do much better than that, because they have a higher inspiration. This is just my musical 2 cents!

Burzum is a really good christian metal band with lots of meaningful lyrics about the greatness of god. The lead singer has even built a couple churches in Norway

I think lyrics is what counts. It doesn't necessarily have to be "christian". I stopped listening to a lot of music as I got older because I didn't want a constant negative brainwash. Still like some Metallica.. some AC/DC. Very selective though.. I don't think you should listen to something that goes out of its way to represent evil. Keep the CD... you might find you listen to it in a year and think what garbage.

How the hell are you taking my troll thread seriously after “Now I know that Jesus is traditionally depicted as a metalhead, but I always kinda assumed it was because he absorbed all the sin of the world into himself which made him look like an evil devil worshiping hippie.”

You'd be surprised at the wide range of teachings and divisive views in Christianity; about Jesus, evolution, doctrine for today, prophecy, etc. It's best to not take chances and write off something seemingly silly when the issue discussed is about salvation.

I guess you could just take this as everyone caring about you- in the original assumption that you were serious about a serious topic that's often struggled with

I think it really depends on the message behind each song. Metal doesn't mean it delivers a satanic message behind it. Oftentimes, the music and the lyrics are totally contrary to what the two are.

I have several Metal or Alternative Rock songs I listen to that deliver a clean and compelling message and don't make you feel as if you're sinning or something.

I can most certainly not listen anymore to new types of pop music as I used to, when all the message behind it is about sex, sinful and deprived ideologies. The Holy Spirit convicts me of listening to them and therefore I just feel guilty, eventually moving to something that is more holy.

The instrumental part of a music can lead you to sinful thoughts, but I'd argue that's not necessarily the case. At the end of the day, if you enjoy a song, doesn't carry any kind of sinful messages and isn't your idol, I don't see it being a sinful thing.

These mundane actions don't dictate the state of your salvation. The moment you acknowledge you're a fallen sinner and turn to Christ for forgiveness of sins, and believe he is able to save you, you are saved. At that point, your disposition to pursue growth within Christ may serve as an indication that your decision was genuine, but this is entirely a personal affair 2 Cor. 13:5.

There are lots of people in the church that will be turned away on the day of Judgment, even saying they did so many things for God. And a number of people will be there that your avg Christian wouldn't think deserved to be there because he rarely showed up for Sunday service.

But even the servant that was hired last was paid the same wages as those that were hired first.
