Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance or this
See both on sale and wonder which one better as 2nd game after enjoyed P5R.

P3R may be too similar to P5R and may feel tired for social link part after P5R. I enjoy the P5R story but, to be honest, I keep skpping the social part after mid game. Gameplay seems better in P5R and I enjoyed the boss dungeons but really hate the Mementos. How is P3R dungeons compared to P5R.

Never play Shin Megami Tensei and is it worth to experience its story? I may not like too much grinding though and seems at least it has more open area to explore and P3R map seems even more constrained than P5R.

I can't honestly recommend SMTV or SMTV Vengeance as a good starting point for SMT. It's all over the place in terms of quality.

I'd take Persona 3 Reload over SMTV.

The dungeons in Persona 3 Reload are basic, mostly RNG dungeon crawling that has more in common with Mementos than Palaces (without the van). Mostly straight corridors. It looks better but it's fundamentally the same experience with a different skin. You get 'story dungeons' once in a blue moon (haha), but they are honestly kind of crappy compared to P5R dungeons.

Idk. I'd maybe try Nocturne instead. I think you'd get more out of it. Which just so happens to be on a 70% off sale right now and is one of the best SMT entries to date.

I have some bad news for you, then. P3R does not have unique dungeons akin to P5R - the entirety of Tartarus is pretty much one long Mementos journey.

I'd argue it's worth experiencing P3 for its story alone, but if you can't stand Mementos, then Tartarus won't make things any better for you.

SMT's main hook is gameplay. The story is there, but it's barebones compared to Persona - even with the Vengeance re-release trying to create a more consistent and coherent pace.

So in the end, it depends on what aspect of these games draw you in the most. If you enjoy living through a good story - get P3R. If the gameplay loop is what you get a kick out of - SMT:VV is a no-brainer.

i played both

i enjoy SMT Vengeance more than this overpriced game, if you wanna equivalent experience with SMT Vengeance, go with Persona 5 Royal instead, P5R and SMTVV are worth to be played multiple times. Reload? 2 playthrough max for me, i know some people out there play Reload like 4 - 5 playthrough, i but i don't see any benefit playing this game multiple times

> Each new playthrough of Royal, allow me to add new Jazz Club skill for a party member, ofc including Omnipotent Accessory or limited accessory that can only obtained once per playthrough
> Each new playthrough of Vengeance, allow me to enjoy a new ending
> Each of new playthrough of Reload, only give me more Null all ailment accessory, more omnipotent orb accessory, and exclusive weapon for Shinji, the best way to play this game is: Merciless then Hard because there's an item that only can be obtained by beating game in the hardest difficulty, i chose hard on my 2nd playthrough because i wanna carry over anything, because if you choose Merciless again, the game won't allow you to carry over anything, not to mention Aigis Episode has separate save file, but there's no NG+ on it

If you're into story SMTV is not the game to look for it. It has a great vibe though. I disliked the open world part of it but otherwise it was a great playthrough.
P3R I also really dig. I actually like the dumb bimbo sidekick character in this one. Compared to 4 and 5 I like the social links and characters more but the dungeons are a step down from P5, which is to be expected, because it's an old game with P5 QoL changes.

So I dunno man. Both are great. Like somebody else said, Nocturne is great too and DDS1 is amazing too, though you have to play the latter one by other means.
