Does the game start to pick up any time soon?
I'm like 13 hours in and I feel like it's been such a slow burn...

I'm used to those since I'm a trails fan but jesus this one feels a bit too much, I never had this problem with like P4 or P5, I'm assuming the story picks up and gets super interesting since this game is so loved but am I any close to that point?

You haven't even reached the second Full Moon boss yet. Things do start to become progressively more interesting after that point.

the game is definitely not as good as 4 and 5 by virtue of being the first game of this type, but it picks up as things move along. its pretty constantly introducing new mechanics ever month

Its P3.

They spend a lot more of the dev time thinking of and implementing the calendar and social links.

Its clear that pacing was affected by this as the story was probably only worked on after.

Its why P4 and 5 are more able to improve on that side.

Of course that makes sense and I was expecting it to be that way to a certain extent, I guess I just got caught off guard is all and was wondering how long it was until it started to pick up.

Since Persona 3 introduced the calendar and Social Link systems, they really wanted to emphasize in the beginning setting up a sense of normalcy with them. Persona 3 is easily the most back-loaded Persona game, where the VAST majority of what makes people love the game comes in the last few months. YMMV, but personally I think August is where things start picking up, with October being where the ball fully gets rolling. I know it sounds like a long time to wait, but again, the first half of the game is really to emphasize the 'normal life' part of so when things get really crazy later on, it feels like your life's starting to spiral. Just stick it out for a while, as 'slow burn' is an understatement, but rest assured it does get amazing later on.
