Is STR REALLY the main stat for Cannoneer?

How does that make sense? Cannons are OBVIOUSLY ranged. Why would it not be Dexterity, like for bows or guns? I'm confused here, can anyone explain this to me?

Dexterity doesn't mean ranged. If a person has dexterity it means they're quick and good with their hands. So normally, a weapon that requires skill to use, would require dexterity. And a weapon that is heavy.. would require strength. I don't think cannons really require much fine tuning. Just hold it straight and fire. And they're heavy and have a lot of kick to them. So.. yeah! :P

Except Dex is used for Gunslinging for Pirates.

That makes some sense. Welp, i'mma have to REALLY work on putting all my stats into STR because I already have around 300 for Dex...
