Steam skips the login popup and can't play. Any way to fix this?

Title is self explanatory, I click the play button on steam, it loads the stuff, but then skips the login popup with my username and password and goes straight into the Do You want to run this Application? thingy and i click yes/run and then nothing else happens. Same thing on the Nexon launcher where the play button doesn't actually launch the game.

Any fixes, because I don't think they're going to update the steam version anytime soon.

(Try to contribute to this thread by not flooding it with "same" or something along the lines of that.)

Can't log in at all. "Failed to start game. (unknown eror)." None of the suggested fixes found in support or online have worked. Yet, it started just fine last weekend. Anyone know a fix that actually works?

EDIT: Fix found: replace the nxsteam.exe and the nxsteamres.dll with that of a clean install

I wish I understood what you mean by that. In the meantime, I found a work-around that lets me play. You can find the install folder for MapleStory in your Steam folder (Steam\steamapps\common\MapleStory), then run GameLauncher.exe that way you should be able to play Maple with another Nexon account.

In those same game files there is something called nxsteam.exe and nxsteamres.dll delete them and verifiy the game cache

Did you try right clicking the nxsteam.exe and run it as admin? after that, click the relaunch button

Nexon games on Steam are tied to your steam account, so you don't have to login twice. So if you've never logged in to one on steam, other than MapleStory, I suggest that you download another Nexon game on steam, like Vindictus, and it should let you link your Nexon account to your Steam account. I don't know why MapleStory doesn't ask it, but I know the other games do. As that's how I linked my account and how my friend linked his account.

So heyy 5 years later, having the exact same problem. Let's also take this moment to aknowledge Nexon as the worst publisher company imaginable.

So how do you deal with the "Failed to load configurations.
Please close this window, check log file, fix configurations, and try again" error after doing exactly what you described?
