Worth to get into in 2024?
Everyone I run across seems to have played this in the early 2000s. Without that experience or nostalgia is it worth for someone who hasn't touched the game to get into it? Is it actually good at the moment? I play on Europe and wanted to know how populated the game is now. If it's F2P too.

Game has and always will be free to play, so all it costs is some time. Heroic servers are the way to go though as they cut out almost every p2w aspect of regular servers.

I started a couple of years ago myself, took a long break, and recently got back into it. I play on Luna (trade server). To me it's perfectly fine and enjoyable (though a little quiet depending on what times you play).
There are a lot of stories and content to go through, potentially on many different characters, before you really have to worry about gear upgrades too much. Once you do reach that point, F2P play becomes hard. There will be a lot of daily things for you to do to slowly make money and progress. Attendance events are rewarding and will help a lot with progression. There is a lot of RNG involved in the upgrading of your equipment, so that takes time and effort.
Boss fights are what makes this game interesting imo. There are a lot of them, and they really require you to learn their patterns and learn your own class inside out (assuming you don't have the dmg to burst them down). They'll keep you on your toes and the harder ones are fun to organize parties for.

If you live in the Netherlands, I would recommend to stay away from Luna server unless you really enjoy suffering. Dutch people suffer from a trade ban and can not make use of the auction house or trade with other players, due to a misinterpretation of a dutch law by Nexon. The Heroic server (Solis) would be the way to go in that case, though I have no experience with it myself.

In Summary, if you enjoy the chibi artstyle and don't mind the massive grind, yes it's worth getting into.

I see. Do you happen to know anything about servers? I've seen people complaining and say they don't want to play on Nexon. Is there a private server or something people play on? Or is the normal in-game random server enough? You mentioned Luna and Dutch people. Are the servers not divided by NA and EU?

Drop $50 on the game and buy yourself some bling to get you invested otherwise you'll get bored and leave without sunken cost fallacy to drag you back in

It gets very repetitive and honestly feels like a chore.

First you'd select your region, EU or NA. Then you'd select your server. For EU there are only 2 servers, Luna and Solis.
People complain about Nexon, because Nexon has done some shady stuff over the years. It's one of the reasons why I'm staying F2P.
I know nothing about private servers, sorry. Though I'm sure they exist.
