How to stop crashing

same, i crashed 5 times just by logging onto my character and within 5-10 seconds. CRASHES

Seems to be getting worse, I also crash withing seconds on entering the game now and sometimes the game does not start at all. Never had this issue before (1 year ago)

Maybe check for updates? Windows OS, hardware/graphics card drivers, software updates, etc since that's typically recommended on a regular basis. I can almost guarantee you that it's not MapleStory from my many years of IT troubleshooting experience & programming. If everything was up-to-date on your pc and you had followed all the troubleshooting steps listed on the guide page I previously provided then the problem would have been resolved.

when i open it on steam it just shows a black screen and kicks me out

You could also try customizing the running processes on your pc/laptop by going into task manager through Ctrl+Alt+Del->Task Manager->Details and setting the running processes to a lower priority based on memory usage. For example, while running Steam I typically set anything around 10k as low, <19k as below normal, >20k as normal, and absolutely nothing above normal priority. If I'm heavy multitasking (gaming, streaming, and listening to music, etc) then I will prioritize everything on low except the main exe's for the programs. Steam/MapleStory and other programs like to set themselves in that above normal priority then you find yourself wondering why things crash/lag/rubber-band or you get random error messages relating to memory usage.

It also helps to wait until the game goes through it's entire launch process--the first pop-up (from Steam) will auto-close by itself then you should get the MapleStory launcher (in the bottom right-hand corner) then the game's actual browser window--If not, relaunch and start over. Once that window loads the servers (choose one) and channels (choose one again) all of your characters should be available to either play/create/delete.

I run every game with v-sync off and have no problems running any game. You can enable 32 or 64-bit mode within the options if that's an issue.

Since the recent patch today, my game crashes constantly. Never happened before this update.

Notice on official Nexon website regarding channel crashes on all servers since most recent update apparently. I would advice referring to their main site for updates as all servers were taken offline because of it. when you're on your character select screen wait for the create new character icon to be clickable...for some reason if that's not loaded in i tend to crash a lot. idk if that helps.
