Is Cleric still a strong class for solo/team play?

I'm torn between either a Gunslinger, a Cleric, or a White Knight as my first character. Are Clerics still welcomed in parties for their buffs/heals, or are they shunned these days?

They are pretty rough to play as a solo class, for bossing they're always welcome, although they've been powercrept by Kanna in mostly everything, people will almost always welcome a Bishop in their partt.

They're rough? Even with self healing, big AoE damage against undead and almost no need for potions?

Well anyway, the choice is between Gunslinger, Cleric, and White Knight. Only the old world classes appeal to me.

After arcane river the damage you receive from mobs depends on your arcane force, if it's high enough then enemies will only deal 1 damage to you.

Undead enemies do not exist later on, so you don't get to deal bonus damage (not that it really matters)

Mages overall are rather clunky due to how Teleport works compared to flash jump, additionally Bishop's mobbing is barely above avegare so they don't got that much of an edge, their best tool is Holy Symbol.

As for solo bossing well, it's a bishop lol, it's the weakest class when it comes to damage, they're made to support

What about White knights with their self healing spell and their elemental charges. How do they fare in solo play?

Paladin (pally) is a pretty overshadowed class but it's pretty solid, they're really tanky at all stages of the game and while elemental damage only really matters pretty early into the game they can still use them efficiently (they also have a stacking buff whenever they switch elemental charges)

They can provide decent support via lv140 hyper skills (literal godmode for you and one other party member) and the self healing comes in handy against later bosses, their mobbing is also pretty decent once they hit 5th job.

And lastly their damage, well, they're overshadowed by Hero (Aka 4th job crusader) which is miles ahead of them but thanks to being really tanky while having decent amount of lines I've seen them hold pretty well on their own.

Well, since I'm unfunded, whatever class I play I need to know where to farm to start getting the mesos rolling.

In particular, I remember that merchants only sell specific class gear up to like level 30 or something, so that likely means I need to farm the gear myself, and in that case I need to know where specific stuff drops, like bullet upgrades for the Gunslinger, Mystic/Esther Shield for Magicians, etc.

Depends on the server you plan playing in, in reboot you'll have to get everything from drops and in reg servers you can just buy stuff from the auction house

I'd rather play on a server with trading, so probably Scania, but I might look for one that's less infested with bots and doesn't have as much inflation.

I was told specifically to avoid Bera because it is "a laggy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ overrun with bots."

Is Scania a bad server? I was told it has just the right amount of players and commerce compared to Bera.

Dunno, I used to play there a long time ago, afaik it's empty compared to bera now, due to world transfer only letting you transfer to Bera so it may be in a healthier state due to lower population.

I don't know, I play on reboot so whatever I can say about Scania, Bera or any other non reboot server will most likely be wrong, all I know is that Bera got a lot more populated since the last world transfer event due to the reasons stated before.

bera and reboot are the post populated servers reboot being post popular and bera being second

A cleric is sadly near worthless these days.

HS no longer makes up for the xp other people in your party would lose having you in it (the cleric line has one of the worst mobbing outputs so you are essentially a leech), and people would rather a kanna anyway if they chose to duo (anything more than 2 people for mobbing ruins xp gains nowadays).

For bossing a cleric can be useful for SOME bosses, because holy...shell? or w/e (the 15 hit immunity) is useful. However on stuff you might actually have a need to party for its useless, because all the real nasty bosses ignore it. And then of course you have some of the lowest damage output in the game (in the bottom 4 classes) so....
