It's literally ironman mode. It's somewhat trendy nowadays but i can understand why you feel that way. Point is, no P2W which is why its so popular.
Also Reboot has way better exp curves since mobs have more HP
Reboot mobs are worth more exp, drop more items relevant to your job, and WAY more mesos.
You don't need to scroll on Reboot. So no fighting with clean slate scrolls, Chaos Scrolls, 30% scrolls, and burning through spell traces faster then you can even earn them.
No bonus potential on reboot. So no need to spend twice as long trying to reroll that, or grind for a piece of gear that already has it on it.
Reboot gives you double slots for all tabs at the start (roughly). And can buy more slots with mesos. Non Reboot server? Need to pay real money, or save up Maple points for a week or more to afford an 8 slot upgrade for ONE character.
Wanna cube things? Need Bonus potential? Cash shop it up. Or prepare for the mad grind to do meister cubes. Cuz that's a fun grind right?
Reboot allows you to have ALL professions right off the bat on a character. Want that on a non reboot server? Get your wallet out, so you can add 1 profession at a time, for real cash.
Unless you're a wallet warrior. Reboot is where you go.
THE ONLY benefit to a non Reboot server, is being able to trade items between characters. And using the massively overpriced Auction House. The prices are literally outlandish. People asking for 250,000,000,000 mesos for one piece of CRA (Chaos Root Abyss) gear.Average amount of money you're going to have as a solo player on a non reboot server by the time you hit 200 is roughly 60-80 mil. So have fun with that until you get OP enough to actually farm to put that stuff on auction, and wait weeks for it to sell.
Also enjoy the armies of meso farming bots on all cash servers, taking up prime spots 24/7 endlessly, while Nexon does nothing to stop them.
Also, EU servers on Nexon games are garbage. Everyone is on NA, or KMS.
A couple of things with Jimbos' post i find incorrect or disagree with. I have never played Reboot, but i have played a lot on Luna.
Inventory tab slots can be bought with Reward points. These can be obtained by killing bosses, doing monster exploration, the rare surprise mission reward, and events. It is easy to confuse Reward points with Maple points, I have done so myself. They are 2 different things, however.
Tab slots are handed out fairly often through events as well.
While cubing is certainly difficult and expensive, i don't think it deserves the lable of having to buy NX if you want to get anywhere with it. Master cubes are easy to find and easy to make. You can go a long way on unique gear alone. Getting just your weapon, secondary and emblem to legendary with meister cubes you find/craft will allow you to pack a serious punch. But yes, meisters are significantly harder to come by. Don't expect to reach legendary tier quickly, take it one piece at a time.
Now Bpot is a whole other can of worms, and it's definitely behind a massive pay wall. The only way to get bonus cubes as a f2p is to convert your mesos into Maple Points and then use those in the cash shop. From what I've heard from a few players recently, this costs about 600 mill to 1 bill per cube. If you plan to try to get some decent bpot this way, please do yourself a favour and wait for a DMT event.
Having said that, you don't need bpot to get far in the game. Mine are all still rare tier and crap.
I don't think I've heard of people paying cash to use more professions on 1 character, though I'm sure it exists. People tend to just make mules for this purpose, from what I've seen.
Not sure where you come up with your prices. Yes, the prices for a lot of equipment and items are ridiculous, but certainly not as bad as you make it seem.
First of all, the auction house has a meso cap of 30 bill (10 bill in the past). This means that any item more expensive than that will have to be traded directly. Since the trade limit is also 30 bill, this requires you to find someone you trust to make multiple payments to, without him running away with your money. As bad as this sounds, I've personally only had to do this once so far. You can go a long way just buying stuff from ah and upgrading your own gear.
Clean CRA gear usually goes for 50-100 mill per piece. Clean faf weapon usually goes for 500 mill -1bill. Most of them are less than 500 mill actually. The only way a piece of CRA gear is going to be worth 250 bill is if it's godlike. I'm thinking 50-60% on the pots, 22+ stars, etc. Possibly not even then.
Yes, it is likely you won't have a lot of money when you reach 200. At 200 is usually when you start looking into how to get and upgrade better equipments. There are ways to make money however. If you know how to play the market, you can become rich really fast. Buying and selling certain items on the ah at the right times. I am personally not skilled in this at all, so I'm left with a variety of daily objectives and farming.
Commerci voyages, both solo and pq. Gollux. Selling the occasional faf, absolab or tyrant. Running dojo once a week. Farming droplets, etc. There are a lot of ways to make decent money, but it requires work. Sometimes you'll have slow weeks and hardly make anything at all. Other weeks you'll make tens of billions.
You could run commerci, gollux and dojo on a lot of mules if you feel so inclined. It would make you money faster. I also find it significantly more boring.
Also, the thought of having to farm 240 droplets for your umbra weapon on reboot does not sound appealing to me at all. Not to mention the Gollux store limit.
Keep in mind that while you may find EU servers garbage, less people on the server also means less bots (or at the very least, less annoyance from them). There are some popular (and unpopular) places where you can find them, sure. But you'll easily be able to go on without them getting in your way.
So to conclude, getting far in non-reboot without paying a cent is certainly possible. I'm currently at 6 mill clean range. I know a f2p guildie of mine who has at least 15 mill clean. But it requires a lot of effort, taking everything one step at a time. If you're the intstant gratification type of player, non-reboot is not for you (unless you pay loads of cash). Heck, maple itself may not be for you, regardless of the reboot/non-reboot debate.
My apologies for the wall of text. I still enjoy the game in spite of it's many glaring flaws, and i enjoy talking about it.
I'll explain how it went down:
They originally had us all on the global server at first, then much later released the European version of the game.
Slowly the European player base on Global diminished as new players from Europe had their IP blocked, therefore being forced to play Maple Story Europe.
The only people from Europe who played Global after EMS was release were those who had played Global prior to it's release as we had an unrestricted account.
This method was not fair, I didn't want to move to Maple Story Europe and lose all my progress, after this time I had billions of meso, tons of high level characters and many friends.
Eventually after a few years finding a European on Global became near impossible, I was slowly becoming more lonely and lonely, the game in the day for me was completely dead because nobody from my region was able to play it.
I changed my sleeping pattern just so I had some people to play with ;-)
I'm glad they merged EU and NA again, I have people to play with!
