And yeah the old leveling was a grind, but that was what made it fun for some of us. It was an achievement as opposed to instantly leveling to 100 in 2-3 hours with the current maplestory.
Or just how long it takes to hit 250 or 275 even, i'd rather rush a level to have content than hitting 100 on an oldschool sever when the more you lv the less conent there is, hence why 200 is just so stupid in vanilla
And speaking of content, most of the content just ends up basically dead in the solo waters because most players would just do other things to grind to 200.
Quests in vanilla weren't spectacular either, but at least you felt like it'd be a good idea to do some in between the grinding.

I think I'd be happy with the game going back to right when the big bang hit, or maybe just before.
I know there are some moderately popular private servers, and that's great, but don't ever expect NEXON to release a Maplestory Classic.
