Most other things exist in a new form.
You can spin grind. (strafe as parallel as possible into the wall while spin attacking)
You can hyper slide. (MTS, but you need to boost to gain anything)
You can tight turn. (quick turn input, but it doesn't re grip / can be held)
You can drill dive. (dedicated button, just hold while in the air - release to smooth land)
How do you Hyper Slide? And what does MTS mean?
Thanks for clearing this up. I couldn't figure out why people were complaining that 'hitting the walls makes you go faster'.
And after trying it myself... I don't get why (some) people are getting so angry about it. It seems difficult to do (in a way that actually improves your speed instead of slowing you down) and damages your car while providing hardly any benefit in terms of speed gained. I really don't see it working on higher difficulty settings and/or later events. Or maybe I'm just not doing it right?
For a hyper slide you either hold both strafe triggers to lose traction, release the inside trigger of your turn (keep holding the outside strafe) and boost.
Alternatively there is a control toggle setting that will put you into hyper sliding by just holding the boost button during a turn.
It is extremely potent and the spin actually makes you take less collision damage.
It's also more effective on combat machines, so I suggest you try it specifically with the Sunlit Warrior or Eternal Mammoth.
And there are deliberate health strips right at the track wall in some places, where you can spin grind without any health penalty whatsoever.
Thanks, I'll give that a go later.
I think those health strips are on the outside of the corners though, in which case it would be faster and more effective to just take the inside track (which usually has boost strips anyway). Especially if you pick a car with high speed/handling stats and low body stats, which should outperform the combat machines on most tracks anyway.
Again, maybe I'm just not doing it right but it seems to me like there are FAR better ways to gain speed than spin grinding, to the point where I don't know why anyone would rely on it as their main source of speed boosts and/or leave negative reviews and comments about it (as some people already have).
The skill floor is much lower than GX. Standard difficulty is very easy. Your own desire to take the obviously faster routes should push you to be able to take on expert and ace though.
