While I support this ship.
I have come across the crazy people who explode the moment someone doesn't.
FF and especialy FF14 aren't new to sexual undertones and some people go way to crazy over things like this.
I tend to stay far, far away from them, them and Limsa as a whole.
And it's the same manic, dangerous energy that shows up in debates like OP's too.
I've only ever met FFXIV shippers on websites and never in the actual game lmao..
two girls literally kissed on screen in a story event this year. go to the granblue wiki, type "unbound asterism" and go into the gallery. you'll find the CG of them kissing in there. granblue is and always has been gay
japan doesn't consider non-straight and non-cisgender identities as being political. lgbt characters have always existed in japanese media. i don't understand what's so hard to understand about that
Sandalphon longed for Lucifer's attention 'cause he wanted to be useful to him. This can easily be interpreted a child seeking attention from a parental figure. In fact, the time when he lashed out is very akin to a child throwing a tantrum when he's not getting the attention he wanted (he was in fact acting very childish in that first act of the trilogy). You CAN interpret this as being gay, but this is not "canonically stated" that he is gay. There is a difference there.
Vira I've already covered. She is really close, and I am personally pro Vira x katalina myself. However, the only thing that's really been canonically established is her own obsession towards Katalina. You can easily interpret that as a bond more akin to family as she sees katalina as an elder sister (and she literally calls her one in the original Japanese script). Not to mention, as Vira becomes less and less yandere-like and as she gets a lot more normal, this obsessive tendency towards Katalina saw a drastic decrease.
Cagliostro is trans I agree, but again, I don't see how that fits into the discussion of being gay (since that's what OP's post is about). She has shown no real romantic interest towards anyone so how do we even say she's gay when her orientation is unknown?
As for most of the playable characters being bisexual, there are several that have story hints at that, but let's not forget that the majority of the cast during their Valentine days and White day dialogue only works for one specific gender.
As for unbound asterism, yeah I have no issue with this example as this one I agree is pretty clear cut.
----------------
I'll clarify again, there are representations yes, and there is plenty of ambiguity up to interpretation.
HOWEVER, to state one's own interpretation as fact or cannon while disregarding other in-game facts is disingenuous or straight up intentionally twisting narrative to fit one's perspective.
For KataVira you might want to search up Grand Vira's fate episode. That should prove my point. https://gbf.wiki/Vira_(Grand)/Lore even if you don't want to play the main game. it sucks anyways HAHAHAHAHAHA
