And don't forget this part of the EULA "You may not copy, modify, adapt, distribute, transmit, decompile, disassemble or try to decipher the source code of all or any part of the Product or any element incorporated into it, nor permit or encourage any third party to do so."
So it's forbidden to mod this game?
Depends where you live.
Here in England, I can categorically state that modifying the game is NOT a problem in the slightest. One should obviously respect EULAs, but in such a case, if (emphasis on that word) the EULA is saying "you cannot modify game files" then that's against your statutory consumer rights. You can do whatever you wish to the game (within reason, obviously).
Naturally, one cannot expect the devs to support such mods in any way either.
So, mod away to your heart's content. However, I can't give you any guidance with Cheat Engine, but I will echo that .cfg files are pretty helpful.
Final note - I've no wish to be argumentative over this issue, and I'm certainly not having a go at the devs in any way. I'm merely clearing matters up here, as I specialise in consumer (and disability) law. Statutory rights- if you're not aware - are fundamental rights everyone has, and NO agreement you sign or agree to can otherwise overrule these.
Happy gaming!
So don't. Ask if they've modded their game. It's friggin simple
Still, it's your undeniable human right to play single player game however you want regardless of what others tell you. Try ArtMoney, it's specifically engineered to handle such cases.
Small point, but not WILL... CAN.
Likewise, cheating can IMPROVE your game too - for us disabled, as the example I've already given.
Cheating can not improve the game, it's the fastest way to drop it because there's no fun left in it anymore when you have full control of what's going on. It's naive to think that cheater will exercise self-control and will only cheat "once". It's like drugs, except it's only killing fun.
You're quite wrong, and I've already answered why this is so.
If you're one of the many disabled players (out of ALL gamers, some 20% have some sort of disability that affects their gameplay), and particularly if you suffer a phsyical or cognitive disability, then sometimes games can be impossible, especially if the difficulty options are lacking, such as in a game like this.
So, even if you're like myself, who has good days and bad days, then you're loathe to start a game on anything more than the lowest difficulty, simply because you will not be able to continue when you're having such a bad day - and trust me, when you ARE having a bad day, gaming is one of the thin-gs you REALLY want to do.
So, yes it CAN help by cheating. In fact, not only can it help, but if you're unfortunate enough to have quite severe problems, then it can make the difference between playing the game and NOT AT ALL.
In other words, you've looked at ONE scenario for cheating and made the assumption that it CAN ruin the game. You haven't had the empathy to consider other possibilities though. And with respect, 20% of all gamers is quite a chunk of people in any case, so it's by no means a small issue.
