I can't believe I missed the release of this game. Thanks to habie i got to enjoy suprisingly one of the best vr games i've played in a while?

I'm about 3 hours into this game as I'm writing this and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. The gameplay is a pretty standard MMO style loop of get quests, go out into the world, kill stuff, collect stuff, or gather stuff, return, turn in quest, upgrade gear, learn new skills, etc. It's kind of like the love child of Saints & Sinners and Zenith. I haven't run into any major glitches so far, although I do have a couple of nits to pick with it:

1. It seems the only quest you can progress is the active one. You need to make sure the correct quest is active before you do something major as part of a quest. I had this bite me once when I did the final part of a multi-step quest with the wrong quest active and I didn't get credit.

2. It seems to be very particular about WHERE you do quest associated things. For example, there is a quest to kill foxes, but it would only give me credit for ones I killed in a certain spot. If I strayed out of the area and killed a fox I didn't get credit.

3. No crouch button. There IS an option for playing seated which is good, but there should be a crouch button as well.

4. There doesn't seem to be any way to start a 2nd character, so I'm not sure how multiplayer will work if you have a higher level playing with a lower level.

I can see myself putting a lot of hours in on this game, so bang for the buck wise I think you'll get your money's worth. If you like quest driven games and zombie games, this is your game.

Pros: The gameplay is VERY realistic and immersive, especially with the realistic reloading and full body IK they just added. In fact, the gameplay basically cancels out everything negative about the game... but if they could fix the cons, it'd be the best VR game I've played yet.

Cons: The graphics are mediocre. Unity can do so much better than this nearly constant full bright. The textures and geometry could also use work. It lacks a day/night cycle making it middle of the day 24/7 which is really strange for an open world game. There's a lot of invisible walls that are unintuitive at first but it basically amounts to you can't stand walk on rocks. It would be nice if it was slope/material based instead of not letting you walk on stuff that's not terrain or a bridge. Also the game could stand to be a lot more atmospheric. The zombies respawn just a little too fast, and the lack of gore and dismemberment kinda takes a lot of edge out of the game that it sorely needs.

A lot of my complaints have been addressed. There's now a day/night cycle. There's now improved textures. It's now a lot more possible to walk on places where it looks like you can walk but previously it was like an invisible wall to prevent you from trying it.
My complaints now are mostly about the shading as well as the balance. It's like ok sure you can go hunting to get food you can cook and eat while out of camp, but why bother? It's safer and easier to just go fishing in camp and roast the fish. You do that and you won't have any deer leading you into a bunch of zombies you have to waste both energy and ammo on. Also the clothing is so prohibitively expensive until the very end of the game that you're better off using the money to buy ammo and weapon upgrades.

I believe this has a TON of potential. Devs please continue to upgrade and add new features!!!!!

Bought the game at launch and it was okay but needed a fair bit of QoL work. Came back for Halloween and the game is in a much better state than last time i tried it. This is my #1 for zombie survival game in VR right now and with a little more work it will be a must have for any VR user.

I have finished the quest line and no endgame yet that i can tell other than upgrade, buy cosmetics and finish the side activities so hope they add some type of endgame soon. Farming for blueprints on the same mobs gets old pretty quick. I would like to see some sort of random dungeon system or a dynamic event map added would be fun.

After delving into this game following a friend's recommendation, I find myself still teetering on the edge of disappointment after 90 minutes of play, leaning heavily towards seeking a refund.

Visually, the game holds up decently, reminiscent of another title with a slight graphical improvement. However, the initial colorful charm fades into repetitive vibes akin to a certain style, not quite matching the game's promotional material.

Gameplay-wise, the inability to climb rocks or change key bindings gives a linear feel to the otherwise open-world setting, making exploration and navigation feel constrained.

The inventory and item management system, while functional, feel cumbersome with multiple clicks required for basic actions. The lack of intuitive controls for holstering weapons further detracts from the gameplay experience.

Combat, touted as a core feature, lacks the satisfying impact one expects. Bullets seem ineffective unless you expend a considerable amount, making melee combat a more viable (albeit repetitive) option.

Quests, unfortunately, follow a mundane fetch-and-deliver pattern, failing to introduce engaging content within the initial gameplay period. The world feels empty and static, with NPCs remaining stationary and devoid of any life or purpose.

Overall, while the game scratches the survival-crafting itch, its numerous shortcomings overshadow any potential enjoyment. At its current state, the game falls short of delivering a compelling experience, leaving me inclined to seek a refund rather than invest further time and money.

After 19.2 hours, I think I have experienced almost everything this game had to offer. I was trying to 100% the game, but I ran into some game-breaking bugs which prevented that. However, it has many issues. This game is so close to being good, but the problem is that it doesn't do anything particularly well.

This game does have 3 different game modes: offline (single-player), online coop, and online pvp. Each mode is sort of different. I mostly played the single player mode. I tried to put some time into the PVP mode, but I never saw anybody else to play with and when I created my own instance, I was playing by myself. The PVP mode is a stripped down version of the main game, where there are no quests. You basically just kill zombies to skill up and try to find loot crates to get better weapons. It was a mode that seemed very barebones and not very well thought out. Online coop is limited to 4 players, but plays mostly like the single player mode where you can do quests and the same side activities.

Survival Nation basically feels like a single-player MMO shooter. You're given very basic quests. Go kill X amount of zombies or go fetch X or power on a generator. There is almost no story to speak of. Your camp is never in danger. There is no competing faction. You never run into another survivor on the road. Nothing ever changes. Nothing you do feels of any consequence. It is just kill zombie after zombie or go hunt X creature. There are side activities, such as climbing, using a metal detector to find treasure, burning down zombie nests & hunting different animals. However, all these side activities are real basic.

Weapon handling is basic. Simple reloads. Gun sights were usually too high on the Meta Quest 2 touch controllers. You do have to 2-hand most weapons to shoot accurately, especially at a distance. Zombies are bullet sponges for the most part, unless you and your weapon are over-leveled for the area. The difference between zombies is mostly how much of a bullet sponge they are. There's almost no meaningful zombie / enemy variety. Enemy AI is mostly them just finally realizing you exist and deciding they want to walk towards you. You can run away from most situations, which makes the danger almost non-existent. You do have to monitor your hunger & thirst though and make sure you have enough ammo, but overall this is casual gamer type difficulty. I rarely died.

Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps. I did run into some game-breaking issues which I posted on the Steam community forum and the devs are still trying to resolve. You do have full locomotion or teleportation available, along with smooth or snap turning. You can play seated or standing. You can choose dominant hand left or right.

Overall, this game isn't bad. Yet everything is too simplified. The map is huge and overall looks good, yet it is at the same time mostly window dressing. There isn't much meat to this bone.

Rate 6.5/10. Sadly, It's better than most VR games, but it is still underwhelming. While playing I kept feeling like this is going to get better later on, but it never did. This game is so close to being good, yet at the same still very far from it.

Currently, if you have an HTC Vive, this game is unplayable. The control scheme was made with the quest in mind with no proper port for the HTC Vive controls resulting in the crouching button and reload button overlapping. This means that if you want to reload your gun, you will crouch instead. There is no way to disable or revamp these controls in game. Other people have complained online, but the devs have yet to fix this issue. If you have a HTC Vive do not get this game as it is literally unplayable since you cannot reload your gun.

The core gameplay needs a lot of work and only 5 reviews have put a decent amount of time into the game but the amount of positive reviews fooled me.

Gunplay doesn't feel great and the pistol alignment is off on the quest 2

Zombies have a lame rush after being shot in an attempt to make the game exciting but it's just repetitive and you can easily bonk them to death with melee to avoid it.

The map looks big but it breaks down into into paths that lead to small area's repeatedly with a few a buildings modeled inside.

Online has a player cap of 4 which seems pretty low for PvP or open CO OP maps

Looting doesn't feel rewarding and you can make a private PvP map then grab weapons and other items while ignoring zombies then place them in the extraction box.

I'd say the main player motivation is leveling and that takes 6 to 7 hours judging by the playtime of the reviews

In it's current state I'd say it should be a $15 game with the option to buy a supporter package or skins

The last thing is 5 games are being worked on by what I'd assume is a small team and that's probably the real problem.

Kill zombies, pick up trash, eat steaks, drink water, get xp and unlock skills and weapons.
Living a slow life with zombies is so much fun.
It's very soothing to play after playing Into the Radius. thank you.
