Any way to remove slaves?
Hi,

I'm just wondering, is there any way to remove slaves from my cities? I always release or kill my enemies after battles and never enslave them. But for some reason my hometown has -22 unhappiness because of slaves?

I played an entire campaign as Sparta without capturing slaves either in battle or when capturing cities. Knowing from history that Sparta had Helot rebellions, I was curious to try this route. Also kept city/village growth at a minimum. Sometimes all it takes is enslaving one town to have unhappiness caused by slaves. Didn't have problems with unhappiness throughout the empire except for Hellas where I built all the military upgrades. A price we pay because of the game mechanics. Apparently, constructing smithies, armouries, training fields, etc. creates squalor and unhappiness, but that was due to squalor, not slaves.

When you take over a faction that has a lot of slaves, they transfer to you. I'm not sure if it's distributed across the rest of your provinces though. And you would need a lot for -22 happiness, maybe enemy champion.

let them rebell and kill the rebell army. then the slaves calm down.

Well I'm playing Egypt and it happens with my main city. I've never enslaved anyone. I have a +6 public order, so I'm fine. But I can't build any new buildings really because of the -22 slave unhappiness.

Looting cities also causes slave population to rise.

Dont take prisoners dont loot towns. I had -30 and i did that in 5-10 turns or so the -30 went down to nothing really.

if you don't build the yellow building that reduces slave decline, then your slaves will die out, slow but steady...
I take slaves every now and then, when I want a little boost to my income, or when I don't care for a settelment and loot + leaves... it happens, but it reduces little by little, the only way to speed it up is by letting the fools revolt against you, slaves and unhappy people will leave for the rebellion you then destroy them and you delt with it, but your income also drops.

I also believe that there is a tec that makes sure your slave decline is reduced... don't get that,..
you might want to get the +happyness techs... there is a few, get more food = +happines and your armies gets a faster refill for the dead soldiers.
