For the civil war, a notification ahead of time would be nice as I hardly ever check the diplomacy page (as I have found no reason to).
As for the siege thing, it should take the torching of the gates a lot longer so the enemy has to sacrifice more to push through. I personally like to wait and use the siege engines. It defintiely makes the game a lot more fun and is more historically accurate. No one in their right mind would just run up to some big ass wall without something a little more than just fire sticks.
And yes, if the gate torching must stay in, I'd prefer it to take a lot longer. Currently the AI will just send up any 3 infantry units and they'll each throw their torches twice, and the door is on fire. When they run away I see a pitiful amount of damage dealt to them judging by the bodies.
We'll see if CA will make any changes in the future to sieges and politics
