A question on the units
I am looking at some of my available units and I'm trying to understand certain ones. First off, what is the advantage of having a First Cohort over Veteran Legionaries? The First are a littl emore expensive but have lower stats.

Then I noticed the Legionaries and the Legionary Cohorts, the next level. While armor is better with the cohorts, the attack drops. Is this right or am I looking at an error. Meanwhile the Armoured Cohorts have significantly higher armor and attack.

Historically The First Cohort of every legion is slightly bigger than regular cohorts AND carry the Legionary Eagle. But in this game they just carry the Eagle and give morale bonuses surrounding troops like a general would.

I do believe Veteran legionaries have higher morale. which can be used as a good holding force if you are planning on focusing on ranged/mounted troops

Yeah I think the first cohort is predominantly a bit of historical flavor as every legion had one and it was the most honorable and experienced of all ten cohorts.

Legionaries and Legonary Cohorts are supposed to represent the shift from Republican Marian Legions to Imperial Legions - namely in the appearance of some soldiers wearing the lorica segmentata. Armored Legionaries then are just those Legionary Cohorts with better defense/armor stats and visually speaking all of the soldiers wear the segmentata.

I'm still a little confused as to why the legionary cohorts do less damage than the legionaries even though the legionaries upgrade into the cohorts.

You may as well forgo them for armored cohorts. They have even better armor than the legionary cohorts and don't suffer any damage degredation for only a modest increase in price and upkeep.

Haven't got that far in the game yet. In terms of historical accuracy, in the legion system after the Marius reforms, a Legion was organised into ten cohorts, each of 6 centuries of 80 men, with each century divided into 10 tent parties of 8 men. The first cohort was double strength, ie it contained 12 centuries, with the first century of the first cohort being the most prestigious and led by the First Spear - the senior centurion of the legion. There would then be a small unit of cavalry scouts (normally around 120), and engineers and artillery. Almost all legions would be supplemented with a similar number of auxillary troops, similarly structured, although auxillary units and legions could and would operate independently.

What I noticed is that Praetorians and Praetorian Guard have 8 armor difference and a slight money value and upkeep variety. Now that is a" "wtf?"! I guess you pay more money for that red beautiful feathers on top of their helmets :)

This happens to many roman units i.e legionnary cohort vs eagle cohort. Either the stats are not true or they are badly explained.

Do you think it's worth worrying or don't even worry about it and upgrade to the Cohorts?
