Gifting/trading cities.
Can this be done in single and multiplayer? I've looked but can't find it. Playing co-op with a friend and we often find we need to exchange cities to consolidate our borders like we want them to be.

If it isn't included as a feature are there any plans to add it?

Isn't allowed and never will be. While it's nice for players to do, it doesn't make any sense in the game world

It's annoying to have to go to war with an ally when they capture a territory I want to complete a province. So, I think it does make sense.

It was available in Rome and Medieval 2, makes it easier to support each other and your allies/client states in singleplayer-campaign.

Yes, it is quite a bit easier when you can just buy up anything you want with your massive treasury lategame. But I think he meant that it woudln't make sense in a historical context. I.E. I don't think buying territory from another nation was really even something people considered doing back then, or much at all before the 16-1700s.

And it does add a fun bit of challenge, in that you have to find other, sneakier ways to get your hands on a province other than just buying it up.

Your saying that land was never handed over as part of peace terms, or to consolidate an aliance?
Patchs of land were passed around as parts of negotiations between nations all through history for a few reasons, the exact opposite of what you said is true.
It makes no sence to NOT be able to have land trade as a part of negotiateing between factions and the only reason I can see for it not being is is the AI being dumb enough to trade a settlement for a large sum of gold, cos gold rains from the sky in this game if you spend the first 20ish turns focusing on your economy as you form up your core teritories.

TW is the most game based in realism so no.

I can think of good reasons to trade territory. Liberating a faction's occupied capital to earn their friendship. In a three way standoff, giving one faction a region to complete their province in return for an alliance against the other. Taking control of an obscure territory belonging to a faction half the Mediterranean away, in return for funds to fight an attack on their homeland. Giving back a conquered part of Egypt to Ptolemies if they give up their suzerainty over Cyprus etc etc etc.

It could be coded that nations do not give up their core territory like the province their capital is in, and that they prefer completeness of provinces etc. If some people really don't like it, if it was included they could also include a tick box to opt out of land tradig for each campaign depending on player preference..

I think this should be made possible. Peace trities often included lands as payment throughout history. For example, carthage had to hand over sicily and corsica/sardiania islands after their defeat in the 1st punic war....

i agree land sales should be available in this game, otherwise you have to attack you allies all the time

Also sometimes you dont want to start a war over one settlement and sometimes it would be nice to give in exchange another settlement so you could complete the province for the side/main objectives.

Yeah it's very realistic, and advantagous... hasn't anyone burnt there city to the ground and abandoned it before the enemy comes in and takes it?

Just don't make allies, same as any Total War game. Problem solved.
Trading partners are the only allies you will ever need. Anything else just gets in the way of your conquest, or drags you into senseless wars half a world away.

why not just swap it in luei of a personally better location, and let an ali woory about it
RufusDaws Sep 23, 2013 @ 2:04am
They had it in the past but they stripped this game bare of features and that was one of them. When Rome defeated Carthage in the first Punic War Carthage handed over Corsico and Sardina and a few small islands without fighting over it. It's historicly accurate to have land swaps as part of a peace negotiation. Yet CA thought it would be a good idea to take that feature out like family trees, guard mode, fire pilum at will etc etc.

It's not the bugs but the endless bad decisions and design choices. This is an unfortunate release.

Hrmm...I rather to help the rebel in my friendly land than pay them half of my treasury for it.
Any way, CA probably ran out of time before they can add it.
