Does anybody understand chariots?
Trying out the Iceni again, first time round I found chariots useless so didn't bother with them so this time decided I'd give them another go... but I STILL don't get them. People say they are good at charging into the back of people or into missle units but they don't seem to do anywhere near the damage horsemen do on a charge and for some reason their standard srance is missle... but missle chance seems worthless as theres basically 20 people throwing spears instead of the 160 you normally get in a unit (on ultra size) AND they don't seem to have a skirmish option so they always stand in the way and get caught.

Has anybody else had any success working them out or are they just useless? they seem good at chasing down routing units but honestly I'd rather have a unit that can fight in the actual battle.

They are useless , after you charge they get locked in melee combat and quicky go down, I made the mistake of making all my pontus gens charoits and lost them all.
All my charges were made from behind into units already engaged with my troops it wasnt a stupid frontal charge

I think they are supposed to function similar to elephants. Rather than attacking units with them, order them to run through. Still seems pretty useless though.

they're pretty good at charging ranged units since it seems like they get the cav charge bonuess but have a huge hitbox. They're good for keeping your general mobile to drop his morale debuffs and to get him out of trouble but the infantry options are better for damage. I just immediately turned off their range attack on my Iceni game and just melee charged with them.

They're definitely not the chariots from Rome 1

Makes me sad =( it was our beautiful chariots that scared off caesur to begin with but these chartios seem useless. All I wanted was to play as the Iceni and have every general a chariot person with all my cavalry replaced by chariots.

Sadly it seems not to be =(

I dont really understand Chariots or Elephants, I just use Chariots like slow shock cavalry, They dont work as well though. I much prefer the mobility of horses to glorified go carts. Elephants just confuse me! They have a hard time with basic medium infantry?

Lol last time i was on these forums people were complaining that they were overpowered. Iceni chariots are great in my experience. They can harass with javs and they can smash units apart with a charge (F for melee) and nothing can run from them and survive

People who think they are OP obviously have never used them ever, I literally charged 2 units of chariots seperately into 2 units of isoluted slingers, in both instances they did nothing compared to what a cavalry charge would have done.

They can chase people don't great but honestly I prefer a unit which can fight well not chase routers down well

My chariots charged and routed a full group of swordsmen. MY chariots absoloutly destroy slingers on the charge. Are you sending them in exhausted, uphill, and on the hardest difficulty or something?

Elephants are all about charge with trample but work best when you charge through units and not directly select them. You can relly mess up whole armies if you micromanage them and keep them charging around while your infantry mops up the guys who have been knocked down. Pikes and javelins seem to be really bad news for them although the patches seem to have their strengths and weaknesses bouncing arounda bit, I've also had trouble with medium infantry just destroying my elephants lately but am able to rout multiple units of spearmen with one charge.

the scythed ones are alot better.. mine finish battle with 200+ kills.

Iceni seem more for confusion and taunting the enemy to attack.

Well you must have a bugged/ only working version cos MY chariots charge slingers and kill 10 people with their charge MY chariots slowly walk into melee units even when I tell them to attack from behind, kill nobody then die in second. and that was them fresh charging downhill...

Ive had calvary with 800 kills not including routed units seems charoits are not as effective and low tier calvary

Chariots are just like the Elephants, good for hit and run attacks. But besides that they're usless
